^ That's not good.

Here is an information from the wonderful website en.vedur.is:

There is a very slight increase in the average strength of the earthquakes, but nothing (at least to me, with my limited knowledge) that would suggest a big change. There is also a definite increase in stronger shocks.

As for the smell, sulfur compounds, like hydrogen sulfide, can be detected in extremely small quantities. So, it does not surprise me that it might be detectable in Norway. However, any kind of precipitation should wash this out of the air, as H2S is very water soluble. There is also likely some sulfur dioxide in that gas, which has a very different odor. The really interesting thing though is the high levels of fluoride compounds seen in Icelandic volcanoes. I wonder if this is a characteristic of rift zone volcanoes in general, or something unique to this geologic hotspot. In any case, this makes this ash quite toxic.

The increase in earthquake activity is now quite noticeable, and an alert has been issued for sulfur dioxide gas.

Is it me or is the Bárðarbunga volcano spewing more lava than the eruption in 2010 from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano?

Warning: Pollution from the eruption is mostly expected north of the eruption today, but can affect a larger area, especially early on before the southerly wind increases. More
Warning: Strong gale is expected in the southwest and west before into the evening. Valid to 22.09.2014 18:00

Vawmataw, awesome picture there :)

Bardarbunga volcano still erupting. Also in this video watch as scientists boiling water with lava. Hopefully, the lava won't get so very far before it is solidifies. I wonder how far the volcano is from populated areas, because it can be dangerous if the lava is reaching populated areas.

That's really surprising!
What is in the gas tank?

Some people are concerned the volcano will affect the northern hemisphere seriously bad, as what happened with the Laki eruption in 1783.

On 16th August 2014 Seismic activity increased in Iceland close to the Bardarbunga caldera. Within days a fissure eruption began which is continuing to this day. This event has brought back memories of the 1783 Laki eruption which caused devastation across the northern hemisphere. Is this event history repeating itself? Whilst we have no control over mother nature, what should we be doing to be prepared?

And speaking of Laki, I see there is a gas warning up on the Icelandic meteorology site. It is the gases from the Laki eruption that did all the harm-- mainly hydrogen fluoride and sulfur dioxide.

The earthquake activity seems to have settled into a steady pattern, which suggests this eruption may go on for a while. There is also a bunch of earthquakes consistently happening in a line not far from the eruption site. These are suggesting that something interesting is going on underground. Perhaps the magma conduit from deep below is not straight.

Mllte!
We have studied volcano's and plate tectonics a great deal, and yet there is so much we don't know about them.

We have already got the warning here in Norway. It happened a couple of weeks ago where most of the people on the coast in southern Norway smelled a horrible gas, and it was found out it is coming from the Bárðarbunga volcano. I just hope it doesn't get worse, so we need to stay indoors here. I guess those who live close to the volcano must have it much worse.

There is nothing now, but sooner or later though, we might get a warning for it.

Wow, what a beast this volcano is, and that amount of lava it has been erupting. If i were able to travel now to this volcano, i would do it. To see the amazing force of Mother Earth. Mother Earth can be scary sometimes, but really wonderful.

An update on the Bardarbunga volcano, day by day. In the link below you can see the following updates on the volcano each day
http://en.vedur.is/earthquakes-and-volcanism/articles/nr/2947

Today(15th October 2014):
As reported yesterday, there is an increase in the number of detected earthquakes in the Bárðarbunga area. Calm weather recently, resulting in better detection of small earthquakes, is hardly enough to explain this increase anymore and probably this increase is real. During the last 24 hours, almost 130 earthquakes have been detected at Bárðabunga and about 30 in the northern part of the dike. No quakes above 5 in magnitude have been detected since 12 October, but five quakes yesterday were between 4.5 and 4.8. The eruption was clearly visible on webcams from midnight until almost 8 o'clock this morning.
