It's still erupting? O.o

Oh yeah it is, but you can't see darn thing on the webcam, probably just a bunch of clouds in the way. If it were clear sky, the eruption would be visible.

I keep checking on the usgs.gov earthquake site and still seeing the quakes in Iceland, thankfully it is not producing those large ash clouds.

16th October 2014 update:
During the last 24 hours, about 70 earthquakes have been detected at Bárðarbunga and a dozen in the northern part of the dike. This is somewhat less activity than 24 hours earlier. Two quakes over five in magnitude occurred at the northern caldera rim; an M5.4 at 11:16 yesterday and an M5.0 in the early hours of the morning, at 03:14 today. One earthquake M4.2 occurred later this morning, at 09:25, in a similar location.

Observations of deep thudding sounds were received yesterday while the large earthquake occurred, possibly as a consequence thereof. Scientist went to Askja yesterday but found no signs of a rockfall, which could have caused the noises. Possibly the sounds were from jet aircrafts, passing at the same time.

I wonder how long this volcano will keep erupting.

Seismic activity in the Bárðarbunga system and volcanic activity at the eruption site in Holuhraun has been comparable to recent days. During the last 24 hours around 70 earthquakes have been detected around the Bárðarbunga caldera rim, the strongest was magnitude 5.3 at 08:36 this morning on the northern rim. The event was preceded by a magnitude 4.7 in the same area just two minutes before. Four additional events exceeded magnitude 4 since the last report yesterday.
Earthquakes over M4.0 the last 24 hours:
20 Oct. M4.6 at 13:27
20 Oct. M4.1 at 13:30,
20 Oct. M4.7 at 13:31
20 Oct. M4.6 at 22:18
21 Oct. M 4.7 at 08:34
21 Oct. M 5.3 at 08:36
12 events were in the range of magnitude 3.0-3.9. The subsidence of the caldera continues at similar rates as the days before, no obvious step in subsidence was observed for the M5.3 earthquake this morning. Earthquake rates in the dyke intrusion are rather low, around 20 events have been detected in the last 24 hours, the strongest one was magnitude 1.4 yesterday at 23:31. All events in the dyke were located between the northern part of Dyngjujökull and the eruption site in Holuhraun.
The eruption continues, visibility on webcams was limited this morning due to weather.

Quotefissure eruption in Holuhraun (north of Vatnajökull).
gas pollution from the eruption will affect areas in the southeast and east parts. Tomorrow (Wednesday) gas pollution might be felt in the northern parts.

Quote20 Oct. M4.6 at 13:27 Depth: 3.2 km
20 Oct. M4.1 at 13:30, Same depth
20 Oct. M4.7 at 13:31 Depth: 200 meters :o
20 Oct. M4.6 at 22:18 Depth: 3.8km
21 Oct. M 4.7 at 08:34 Depth: 6.7km
21 Oct. M 5.3 at 08:36 Depth: 15.6km
No really bad sign, except for the one yesterday.

At least there is no population that I know of being severely impacted :) Hopefully it will tire out soon.

After almost 3 months since the eruption started from the Bardarbunga volcano, the eruption continues. There are atleast 1 earthquake above magnitude 4 every day. Today it was a magnitude 5.4, 5.3 5 days ago, 5.2 mangitude 2 days before that and 5.4 magnitude earthquake 5 days before that.

Quote14 November 2014 12:00 - from the Scientific Advisory Board

The volcanic eruption in Holuhraun continues with similar intensity as it has for the last two weeks. Lava continues to flow out of the lava lake in the crater to east southeast. Emission of sulphur dioxide from the crater appears to be constant. Seismic activity in Bárðarbunga continues to be strong but the number of earthquakes stronger then M5.0 seems to be decreasing. The subsidence of the Bárðarbunga caldera continues with similar rate as in the last few weeks although the rate of the subsidence appears to be slower. GPS measurements outside Bárðarbunga show that the horizontal displacement is slowing down.

Eywa flexing her muscle  ;)

As long as it doesn't cause any significant disruption, it is pretty cool :)

Tsanten Eywa 'eveng

Now this is definitely the next Kilauea. Eruption on Iceland still ongoing.

Wow, that thing has legs! Everyday I glance at the usgs site and there always seems to be a 4.5+ mag quake over Iceland so I know that it has been continuing! but the pics are amazing, Irayo!

The earthquake activity on Iceland near the Bardarbunga volcano has decreased quite some bit, but it is still spewing out lava as it has done since August. I wonder when it will end. It has been said it can take from 5 to 15 months before the volcano can explode and make a giant ash cloud as what happened in 2010 that disrupted the air traffic over the entire Europe.

QuoteConsiderable gas pollution can be expected around the eruption site and also east and northeast of it.

Generally, I think the longer an eruption like this goes on, the less likely it is to explode. Its like squeezing a brand new tube of something. At first, the contents sputters out as the sir pockets, etc. work their way out. Once the contents of the tube are 'solid', the contents simply flow out smoothly.

An image taken yesterday from orbit on a NASA satellite showing a very winter-wonderland Iceland.
Holuhraun distinctly black as well as lake Lögurinn in the East and lake Þingvallavatn in the Southwest.

I have a question: Could the Bardarbunga influence our winter this year?

I think it has already done it. It seems it has caused the winter's climate to be colder. Here, we have got a lot more snow in the maybe past 5 years. Other countries in the world that is very far from Iceland likely won't be affected/been affected.

Vawmataw

Yeah, we're not too far from Iceland. ;) This year, we got much less snow (except in the eastern coast and the St. Lawrence Gulf), but our temperatures were colder.
