There are reported that only 12 people got minor injuries of the earthquake. Here's a video showing the moment the 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Japan. Right afterwards came a 6.2 magnitude aftershock. This aftershock was a bit further northeast of the 7.8 earthquake. I wonder if this is just a reminder that a big one is coming again. It happened before. That is what happened with the 9.0 magnitude 2011 earthquake. An earthquake between magnitude 6 to 7 occured one week before. It might be this reason, that on 12th of May a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck northeast of Sendai, that this was a some sort of a foreshock, and also just a pre-chain reaction.

Another moderate earthquake in Japan, but this one further north. The epicenter of the 6.1 magnitude earthquake was between the islands Honshu and Hokkaido, in the Tsugaru Strait.
Some agree to disagree, either it was a 6.0, 6.1 or a 6.2 earthquake. There is no information yet on USGS, but on CSEM-EMSC it says it was a 6.0 magnitude earthquake. It came a 4.5 magnitude aftershock but this one moved all the way down to the northern areas of Tokyo. The 6.0 magnitude earthquake was at a depth of 50 km and the 4.5 magnitude earthquake in Tokyo was at a depth of only 20 km. At that low depth it will be much easier to be felt, than the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that was at a depth of more than 600 km. If the Tsugaru Strait earthquake was at the same magnitude and at a depth of only 50 km, it would likely happen something really bad there. Much more chance of a tsunami, and more devastating.

Another big earthquake in Japan   A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the island Kyushu, right next the city Kumamoto which has a whopping 731,000 population. Many aftershocks, 9 causalties and rising and over 740 injured people, and many buildings destroyed. The magnitude was 6.5 but was upraded to a 7.0 magnitude. There was a tsunami warning, but it was blown off.

The aftermath of the devastating earthquakes on Kyushu island in southern Japan has turned to be worse. 42 have died, and there are over 3100 injuries reported and counting. There was a 6.2 magnitude foreshock at April 14th and a big 7.0 magnitude earthquake at April 16th. There even was a 6.0 magnitude just 2 and a half hours later after the 6.2 earthquake. Over 250 thousand people have been evacuated. The gouvernment of Japan has sent out several ten thousands of soldiers to help those who are left in the ruins. Also a massive 200m highway bridge collapsed.

Bad news

I expected it  7.0 magnitude is really strong earthquake.

I am also sorry to hear about the disaster , and the 7.8 magnitude quake that hit Equador  not long after.
