GMT+1 classwork topic
« on: October 08, 2010, 01:48:00 pm »
So we had a good time during NgayNume this evening.

The project: take some text or song you like and translate that into Na'vi. I think we all did our best.

To preserve the efforts, I'm opening this topic, which I hope is allowed.
I tried to translate an adaptation of a Pagan chant. Here's what happened:

We All Come From The Goddess
And To Her We Shall Return
Like A Drop Of Rain Flowing To The Ocean

Ayoe za'u ta-Eywa
ulte ayoe ta-Eywa tätxaw
na-tompa ta-txampay tätxaw

All that dies shall be reborn
All that falls shall rise again

Ral kxitx lu 'ongaryokx nìmun
Nga zaryup ulti nga kllarykxem. (karyllkxem?)

Wisdom's gift shall be our own.
Wisdom is the gift of age.

Ayoe laryu txantslusam
Koak sute kame txan.

I put in descriptions what I intended to write.
There probably is the odd error in my text. ;) If someone would care to point these out, I would appreciate that!

I translated a bunch of easy sentences.
The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work.

I live with a small grey cat.
Oe kelku si hu hì'ia palulukansyìp angul.

My cat is crazy.

I am sure one of the moderators can accomodate that. I looked around but could not find a homework board, that's why I created this one. ;)

And irayo for cleaning up my things! I'll have a look at the why soon. :)

txura ayhufwe, txukxa pay
oe 'eferu fko mì tokx oeyä,

You are very subtle for a karyu!

I was surprised that you did not have more comments on my bit. (I guess you are not awake yet. ;))

Irayo, I blame the - in the dictionary. Just because that does not argue back. ;)

HRH the "-" just indicates that the word not cause lenition  ::)

:-[ well... Srane, now that you say it.
Tirea Aean said yesterday I have to be careful with fko, so I wasn't sure if that is correct.

And I have to say I like beeing corrected at the moment. Thats a good way to learn. I feel better with trial and error (and beeing corrected) than trying to figure it out by myself and not doing anything in Na'vi at all. So please keep up the good work correcting us.

I recall that yes.. I don't deal that much with fko though, so I might be wrong, but my Na'vi spirit says that it should be -l/-t :P

you don't need laryu, cause 'ongaryokx  is good enough on its own.
But I'm thinking of if you should just have <ay> and not <ary>..
