Was there a reason for this or is it just like that?

wm.annis

Could you elaborate?  I think I'm missing some steps.  :)

Do you have a question about plurals and/or lenition?

Oh, sorry about that, my question is about plurals. Why not just put ay before 'ite?

Well, if you want to use the plural prefix ay+ on 'ite, then something called lenition occurs and what it does here is causes the ' to disappear so your word looks like ayite. You also have the option of just writing ite, but I prefer to use the ay+ prefix just to make it clear that I do indeed mean the plural of 'ite.

Oh, it seems I've made a mistake  ;D

All this time I knew that 'eveng was child, but I though 'ite was children  :(

Saw it in "Na'vi in a nutshell ", sorry about that.

No need to apologize :) But yes, 'eveng is child but the plural would be ayeveng (lenition also occurs here). 'Ite is more specific, meaning daughter.

What's weird about this is that the gender suffixes are placed on 'it and not on 'eveng'It in itself just means "bit" :P

'evengan and 'evenge and their affectionate shorts 'evan and 'eve are legitimate words aswell. meaning boy, and girl.

I thought those were based off of 'evi, in which case there is a small vowel elision.

'evi is the short affectionate for children. Idk if 'evenge/an are based off of it. What I'm wondering now is if 'itan and 'ite are really based off of 'it.

okay self correction:

'ite means daughter. ayite daughters
'itan means son. ayitan sons
'eveng means child. (ay)eveng children.
'evengan is boy child (ay)evengan boy children
'evenge is girl child (ay)evenge girl children
'evi is affectionate short of 'eveng, child, kid. (ay)evi, kids
'evan boy (ay)evan boys
'eve girl (ay)eve girls

tho i gotta say that some of these i have never seen before because some are more used than others.

thanks, sxkxawng, that does seem to make more sense.
