when someone calls your name, wat's a usual response in na'vi?
so like in english, ppl say things like 'yes?' or 'what's up?'
what could be like an equivilent in na'vi?

Will Txankamuse

You could say srane or kaltxì or possibly plltxe if you were e.g. answering an incoming phone call in Na'vi.  When Tsu'tey wants to get the attention of the novice aytaronyu in the Iknimaya scene, he shouts Syaw at them.  Ois is also a Na'vi exclamation.  Both of the final two are more for getting attention than responding though...

I would probably go with srane.

do we know enough of their language/culture to back this up?

Will Txankamuse

There is no example in the film where someone responds in Na'vi to being addressed directly, in all cases including the time on Iknimaya, no response is given, so it's all guesswork at the moment.  But all the words I used above are Canon so could be valid responses.  It's possible there is an informal version of srane that we do not know about (most languages have this e.g. 'yeah' or 'yup' in English).

Do you have a specific reason for the enquiry?

With a spoken language, there is probably no need to have something to answer a call. Looking at the one who called your name is enough.  :P
That's a little details which will probably take time to adapt to the Na'vi.

As Will Txankamuse said:
You can probably use Srane or Kaltxì depending of the situation, if you really need something.

We're not considering that Na'vi is supposed to have a greater gestural component than English. Though F seems to be not considering that either.

If you're in the forest, though, you need some response that's not line of sight.

Skyinou

Well, it's not about gesture. But you rarely call someone without reason. And when there is a reason, there is also a precision of what one want you to answer.
If you call someone just to know where he is. Then the question is open. (maybe a sound as answer, from the movie, Na'vi seem to like making weird sounds, even if it is generally more for an ikran  :P)
If you have something to say, actually you say it. Do you often call to someone without saying anything else? (without phone, or writed chat) Personaly, I don't. But maybe I'm weird. yes ;D
