When I learnt with the Nutshell guide yesterday and came to topic 5.4.1 Compound <iv> infixes I tried to translate the sentence it gives you. I'm proud to tell that I did almost everything correct  ;D , except for one thing: And this is my question to you now.
I translated it like that: Txo nga ke yirvom krr a ayoe polate, ayoengìl tsilvun 'ivem 'uot.
But then the sentence in the nutshell guide was: Txo nga ke yirvom krr a ayoe polähem, ayoengìl tsilvun 'ivem 'uot.
So: what exactly is the difference between Pate and pähem? Or is there any at all? (But assuming there isn't any difference, why are there two translations for only one word?)

pate is given as to get to a place as well so I presume that it is more like "to finish a journey by arriving" whereas "pähem" is just to arrive.

In your case, as the arrival is what matters, not the journey proceeding it, I'd say that pähem is probably a bit bette than pate.

I doubt such a difference exists. See here onwards.

So you use both as synonyms? Well, I thought there had to be a difference, because in the dictionary it says that pate means arrive, get to a place  and pähem only means arrive... As these two haven't got exactly the same translations, and as both are in the dictionary, it only seems logical to me that these two words can't be synonyms (although I don't know if the difference kemeoauniaea gave is correct, we'd have to ask Frommer himself to get a reply that is really correct, then).
Also the discussion you have linked to is about assumptions I guess, because originally the dictionary says that pate is, just as Pähem is as well,  PF = Frommer's Canon. So they can't be sure whether this is only Zoe's idea or Frommer did adopt it.  :)

Could it be that pate would be used only when connected with a noun, while pähem would be used in all other cases?

Uh...yeah. My bad.

Pate is indeed a Zoë Saldana creation.
