Do we even know how much input Cameron had in ASG/Pandorapedia? Some of the things from the latter, at least, feel distinctly non-Cameronian to me.

[21:42:59] <@Muzer> now they are just expensive

Taronyu

My initial guess is little. But I can't really comment much beyond that.

I try to not even look at them in case my brain picks up a word  that's completely wrong so I choose 1 or 5 lalala I'm not listening lalala
they killed the [you] tag

I'll be doing 1. until official words come along.
Admittedly it can be restrictive in some cases, but it makes more sense to wait for proper, non illegal words to come along :)

Ok, so it just occurred to me that Frommer actually gave an indication of his take on the issue this weekend. Paraphrasing slightly, he said that "the people behind the ASG had no knowledge of the language, but just came up with a bunch of random words and then called them Na'vi", and was rather annoyed about it. Basically, he seemed afraid that that book has damaged the public's perception of the actual Na'vi (i.e. regarding those who don't find their way here). Perhaps Le'eylan has a better recollection of his exact words...?

So, I'd say it's #1.

Ah, #1 it is then. But just out of curiosity, got a link to that?

Lance R. Casey

No, it just came up during the get-together the three of us had on Saturday. ;)

This is pretty accurate. The reason I don't want to quote his words re: this is because of legal constraints - Frommer obviously doesn't want to be seen denigrating the ASG, which is still quality material.

Here is my message to Pawl concerning the Taronyu's list.  :D :)

Tse..
.

As I said in my previous message, the French section is dying (not just Learn Na'vi, but it concerns all French forums)

Oddly enough, people are doing "online Role-Play" (I'm one of them)
The big problem is this :  people use the names of objects that come from the "ASG"
=> Unfortunately, many of these names (almost all!) Are false or have errors.

* Feru m'predu'k : Basketball
* Na'hla buk'ne : direhorse lead, lit. face pull (the best! XD)
etc ... etc ... keftxo nang!

I reminds, in San Fransisko's, you had spoken with  Taronyu about legalization of these words
=> It's a shame to have a book with words and Na'vi proffesseurs who says " Don't use these words ! " O_O

I think it would be good to legalize (by changing some syntax) all the illegal words in the ASG...
=> topic and Taronyu's test in legalization http://forum.learnnavi.org/intermediate/what-to-do-with-the-asg-words/15/

=> Background ("why the words were misspelled")

Early interaction between humans and Na'vi, a clan (the Omatikaya? Hmmm ... no! Too easy! Go, a sweet clan far far far away from Hell'sGate ^ _ ^ ) agrees that a friend of Dr. Augustine came and learn their traditional way of life.
This person, although excellent anthropologist, has not a clue how to write the words Na'vi.
In addition, because the Na'vi has no writing, no one can say whether what she writes is good or not
she uses a kind of phonetic

Despite his best efforts, this clan has a strong accent, which makes the task even more difficult.

In evenings at Hell'sGate, after the Link (bond), she and Dr. Augustine are working on the best way to write these words.
The pages of their work are photographed by a member of the Cause and sent to Earth
On Earth, the "Cause" create a book to inform people, the "Activist Survival Guide"
unfortunately, many names found in this book were not corrected by Grace and her friend ...

Dr. Augustine realizes that the work was sent to Earth, she asks the specialist in Na'vi language in Hell'sGate, the Avatar Driver "Paul" to study better way to write these words used in the life of every day ...
(... Paul-F... hmmmm... who is this mysterious driver? ^ _ ^)

To be continued ....
