Kaltxì!

I'm from Vienna, Austria, 27, IT freelancer, hobby-linguist, and LARPer.

Languages so far:
- German: natively
- English: uhm... you decide. :P
- Latin: 6 years, I could never actually speak it, but I can still read it quite okay
- French: 4 years, then deliberately forgot all of it.
- Czech, Hungarian: could speak both to some degree but forgot most of it due to a lack of practice
- Spanish, Japanese: looked into it a bit
- Arabic, Russian: want to learn

Right after watching "Avatar", I told my friends that I just had to learn Na'vi! Today, someone pointed me to this website and I already tried to pronounce some words, I'm still struggling with the grammar though.

Na'vi is the first artificial language I ever wanted to learn, before that I thought it was better to learn a "real" language... well, things do change. :D

Looking forward to talking to you all!

Err... no. I don't like people abusing LARPs for their cosplay. Also, it would be hell of an effort to get all the make-up right. :P

Hi everyone,

My name is William, I'm from Europe.
I can speak fluently English (I work in Japan in an American company), French (well, I'm French) and Japanese (my wife is Japanese). I also learned Italian, Hindi and Chinese for a few years, but even though I can understand a few things, I can't speak them. I studied linguistic for 5 years at the university and I'm very fond of artificial languages. My nickname "Nuruhuine" comes from the Elven tongue that JRR Tokien created, the Quenya. It means "Death's Shadow".
I was struck when I first watched Avatar, and when I heard that a linguist, M. Frommer, was actually hired to create a language for the Na'vi, it immediately piqued my interest. Now I wish to learn it, and at the moment, I'm trying to get familiar with the grammar. I hope I'll be able to produce short sentences soon. If that's the case, I'll post them on the forum.
The biggest difficulty so far for me is the pronunciation.

Nice to meet you all!

-Nuru.

Kaltxì frapo!

My name is Lex.  I'm a sophomore at Purdue University, currently majoring in computer science with minors in physics, music, and linguistics (unfortunately, I haven't started my linguistics classes yet :<).  I'm a native English speaker, and I've spent about 4 1/2 years studying Japanese as well.

I saw Avatar on the 18th, and it completely swept me away into the world of Pandora.  The next morning, I did a little poking around on the internet to see if there were any materials for learning Na'vi, and I've been busy learning ever since then.  I found this site last night thanks to a post Prrton made on UPenn's LanguageLog.  I'm greatly looking forward to learning Na'vi with all of you!

Paeter

My name is Peter. I'm 19. I'm an Australian and an avid language enthusiast. English is my first language and I also speak French and German quite well. I'm deeply interested in languages as well as many other things. I just saw Avatar and the first thing I did when I got home was look up everything on the language and was delighted when I confirmed that it was an actual conlang created by a linguist. When I was watching the film I could tell from the ejective consonants that it must be created by someone who knows what they are doing.

Kaltxì

I'm Cole, 27yo from Wisconsin.  I'm a computer geek and fan geek of many many years.  Went to see Avatar on Monday night and was blown away by both the CGI and the awesomeness of the Na'vi people/culture/language.  Given that I did in fact manage to fail HS French I expect that learning Na'vi will not be easy but I am very much willing to try.  (I can learn computer languages, there must be some hope!)

Nice to have met all of you :)

I know the feeling. My friends can't stand the sound of another sentence in Na'vi.

Oh boy, ain't that the truth. The standard response I currently get is rather abrasive... they just don't understand!

Kaltxi!

I'm Theo. Like many of you I've only recently become aware of Na'vi  :)

I'm a college student, studying linguistics and Japanese. I can't roll my R's to save my life which is going to make speaking Na'vi particularly challenging for me, but I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
