Hello friends, I'm new here!

My name is Ariana and I've been an Avatar fan since the beginning; I'm just now getting on the language-learning bandwagon.  :) I'm really excited to finally start learning Na'vi, first with watching the seminars with Dr. Paul Frommer from the LearnNavi YouTube channel. No better place to start than from the man himself, I'd say. Irayo to everyone for their hard work and I'm eager to join the family!  ;D

P.S. For those who haven't figured it out already, my username is the name of the female character in Toruk: The First Flight (my avatar is concept art of her). I haven't seen the show but in videos I've watched on YouTube I fell in love with Tsyal right away. Has anyone been able to see the Cirque show yet?

Kaltxì ma oeyä 'eylan! I'm a newcomer here too, so let me ease your mind a bit: everyone here is very kind and welcoming, especially with questions and mistakes. I would recommend joining the Discord as soon as possible, as Kawnu suggested. They say that one of the easiest ways to learn a new language is to be immersed in it as much as possible, and on the Discord you'll read and hear plenty of Na'vi. Even if you're not the type that likes to be immersed (like myself), it's still a great place to chat, practice/test your ability on different concepts, have any questions answered by more knowledgeable people, and even take some free lessons. You should also check out Na'vi in a Nutshell and the Reference Grammar, which are available here: https://learnnavi.org/navi-grammar/.

My one piece of advice as a fellow beginner is to get to grips with the pronunciation as soon as possible, in particular the sounds of ', ng, kx, px, tx, r, and rr. Study the pronunciation section, google any sounds you aren't familiar with, practice reading everything you see out loud (even if you don't understand it), etc. At this stage it's relatively easy to undo any errors you make, but once you're settled into a bad habit it is difficult to "unlearn" it and relearn the correct way, and I know from first hand experience - my years of learning foreign languages have trained me to read e as /e/ (similar to English "bay") rather than the correct /ɛ/ (English "bet"), and I'm constantly called out on it.

Anyway, sorry for the long winded comment! I wish you good luck on your Na'vi language journey!

No worries! I'm grateful for the tips! I'm an avid language-learner myself, so I'll definitely have to watch myself for a bit until I get the hang of Na'vi pronunciation (I've been watching the Paul Frommer seminar videos for this very reason, haha). I've just joined the Discord server and am currently figuring out how to figure it out. Once again, thank you for your help! :)

Kaltxì ma Tsyal!

I have seen the Toruk show and loved it. Tsyal in the show was awesome :D

So you're an avid language-learner. :)  That's great because it will save you a lot of time trying to learn the technical way.  With a linguistics background of sorts, you could get a lot done in little time using Horen leNa'vi and Dict Na'vi and/or Memrise.  In my opinion, nothing beats tons of practice and examples.  We're always around to help out with things that aren't clear or don't make sense. :)

Thank you very much! I'm glad to see there's courses in Na'vi on Memrise, so that'll be great while I'm travelling this summer. I'm grateful for the help!  :D
