I'm just really wanting to translate Na'vi phrases and such, to make names and speak online with others. :3 (and maybe confuse people in real life) So I wish to learn Na'vi. I downloaded the document, but I'm really not comprehending much...

I'm learning Latin, my only language besides developing ASL. So I'm used to nouns agreeing with their places in the sentence. Is Na'vi similar?

Not especially.  It does have cases (though not the ones you're used to), but adjectives don't agree with the nouns they modify, though they do get an attributive marker, -a- which is affixed to the adjective on the side facing the noun.  So, tsawla tute or tute atsawl for "a big person" (tute person; tsawl "big (in stature)").

If you are dedicated enough, you will write quite good sentences after 1 month, but that is not long at all. :)

Eywa ngahu livu, ma 'eylan.

May Eywa be with you, friend.

(obvius "livu" is optional, that's why most leave it out).

Kaltxì, ma Kai.  If you haven't already, i'd recommend that you check out this thread on useful documents.  My personal favorites in there are Taronyu's dictionary and Neo's Na'vi in a Nutshell.  I also looked at the N'avi Wikibook quite a lot when i was learning, although since then i haven't needed it as much.  You can also find a great summary of Na'vi grammar here, but you might find that one's a little too advanced to start with.

Anyway, welcome to the Na'vi language community.  Eywa ngahu.

Latin should give you a grounding in the concept of cases (even though most are different in na'vi) and free word order. It should also help you with distinguishing aspect from tense.

Other than that, you've got no more of a headstart than the rest of us tawtute ayskxawng, good luck.  :)

Haha, we're acting so much more Na'vi then anything else, he seems too sane for his own good. Either that will change or he will leave next time he pops up online :P.

No but really, Welcome to LN, it's full of nice people, and I'm sure you can find your place around the forums ;). Hope to see you around.

I live in a world where dreams are controlled by others, not by yourself. I live in a world where people choose what you become, and you have no choice whatsoever. This will change. My dreams will become reality. And that, my friends, is a promise.

not necessarily.  There is a lot to take in here.  they may still be looking through the different forums and and documents that are available.  I know I looked around the forums and tried to understand the documents for a month or two before making my first post.

Seconded, it can take a lot of time before one is comfortable enough to open themselves to the public by posting. Welcome to the Community ma Kai, and don't forget to take things at your own pace, and to just have fun ;D!

Fair enough, back in my day there wasn't as much to look through so it would have been sure he'd quit. I guess I'm like the old sempulä sempul sitting on a branch complaining about young whippersnappers using words like "wou" and being ruled by a vrrtep a mì tokx atsleng and how hometree would never have been destroyed if we hadn't let Zheyksuli into it in the first place. ;)
