« on: January 08, 2010, 12:19:54 pm »
Seems a lot of y'all are bilingual. So I wants to know what languages everyone speak.  ;D Besides Na'Vi, of course!!

I speak:
English -home language
Afrikaans -forced to study it at school. I'm not very good :-\
Japanese -my favourite language. I study it with a tutor

 ;D ;D ;D

American English is my native tongue, but also learned some German in school, and lived in Israel for 4 years where I learned Hebrew.

I believe German + Hebrew = free Yiddish, but I'm not sure.   :-\

American English - Raised, reading, writing, speaking, listening (Fluent?)
Scouse English - I think I learned a bit from ma mates the liverportians!
Japanese  - Moderate, I know simple grammar, but I am lacking a workable vocabulary without preparation, or immersion
Spanish  - Very Poor
Russian  - Very Poor
German - A few memorised Phrases from a German friend
Tagalog - Food Words, A few memorised phrases from living in the PI
French  - Food Words, Dirty stuff, learned from working in Yosemite (lots of tourists)
Chinese - Food Words, Some written characters from Japanese
Korean - Food Words, and Body movements

----

Na'vi  - Working on it
Klingon - I Know some words
Vulcan - I never checked
Sindarin  - Never tried it out
Thermian - I can fake it =) Watched galaxy Quest in Thermian all the way through!
Mars Attacks Aliens - Fluent

Klaatu barada nikto!

----

I have had too much on my plate because of the way my life has run its course.  Japanese is the only language I could say I took seriously after English, but I haven not been using it for some time.

I tend to have an adhesive brain when it comes to spoken words.  So if information is incorrect, it stick there incorrectly.  This is not always desirable, but it does help if I spend enough time around a culture, I tend to shape my speaking and attitude to the region.

Invented Language - I want to create at least 3, and I do not know how to do it.  This sight is teaching me how much I do not know.

Wow. Impressive!  ;D I dunno. I really want to learn some French and German. Just a tad, though.  :-\ But my brother advised that I should just stick to Japanese and Na'Vi for the moment, and I'm going to take that advice. 'Sides, I can't fail my Afrikaans! As much as I dislike it, I gotta work on it a little...
Though there isn't much point...   ::)

Home Counties (the areas surrounding but not actually in London that speak "Queen's English") British English: native language
Spanish: learning at school, conversant.
French: did learn in school, was ok, now I've forgotten most of it now.
Italian: about half a small phrasebook full (we used to go on holiday to Italy a bit)
German: very basic tourist vocabulary, one, yes, no, hello, goodbye, please, thank you.
Russian: yes, no, hello, goodbye (one of my friends is Russian and I picked up a teeny-tiny bit)

and yes and no in one or two others.

This is my first Conlang though.

English - Language of learning (fluent)
Afrikaans - My 'actual' home Language (fluent)
German - Learning (sorta easy for me to learn because of my Afrikaans upbringing. The two languages are practically the same  :D)

And (if we get the papers soon enough) i'll be leaving next year in November as an exchange student (to Germany). I'd like to meet atleast 1 Na'vi fan there! (but you knew all this already, didnt you Ki_lin_7  ;D)

English: My native language
Japanese: Studied for 4.5 years, still decent at conversing in it
German: Started learning with Rosetta Stone, but it's been awhile since I've learned anything new
And, of course, Na'vi: I understand the grammar, syntax, and pronunciation, and am currently building my vocabulary (which is difficult, since there are words in the Survival Guide that don't follow Frommer's rules and therefore probably weren't created by him)

Japanese has made learning Na'vi fairly easy.

French, English, Spanish and Esperanto. I wish I could add Na'vi already but it'll take some time - if only for the current lack of vocabulary we all have to cope with.
