For organization, somehow through threads or whatnot, we need to make a couple subgroups, for ideas about the handbook "idea" (basis of project, how it is used, etc.), physical (format, order, etc), and informational (content, information used).

I still don't like the idea of a Wiki.  Anyone can put whatever they want to up there.  What happens if some crazy hacker decides to get on the site and start putting stuff up there that will allow them access to your computer.  Would you think a Wiki is such a great idea when your identity is stolen?

As to who has the original copy ... that would be me.  I am not planning to fall off the face of the forums, but I had already planned to give a copy to each of the Admins so they all had a copy of it.  Just in case.  I'm a suspenders and a belt kind of girl.

And don't even try to tell me that a hacker couldn't do what I said.  I've been in computers for 25 years and believe me, yes they can.  I could do it if I was so inclined.  I'm just too ethical to do anything of the sort.

As far as organization is concerned, I was planning to have a contributors meeting on Teamspeak some time after we actually have some contributors.  So far we have 3 and they have mostly given me ideas where to find stuff.
Most of the content at the moment is off the forums, it's just all in one place so we can find it all.  There is some content off the web, but that's really only one section.
I don't see this all happening overnight.
Let's get a list of contributors first and then try to get stuff together.
By then you may even convince me that a Wiki is a good idea.

Of course it won't happen overnight, but at least we can get our ducks in a row. I'd liketo know from everybody what stuff we have (or will have) and what we dong. A master list.

At the moment I have as Contributors ...
Me
Tirea Aean
Uberdoodlet
Ilisaqpuq

For the content I have:
1.  Useful links and forum topics
2.  BB code and how to use it
3.  IRC stuff
    a.  miRC
    b.  xChat
    c.  Mac users (I need someone to write this up.  I don't know Mac. Was going to contact Seze about it.)
4.  The menu Items
5.  The LearnNavi Collective - an explanation of the positions and Karma

That's what I have so far.  That includes the stuff that was sent to me by Tirea and Ilisaqpuq.

Let me once again state, if the team (which really has yet to be assembled) decides to do a Wiki, I'll go along with it.  I just don't want just anyone to be able to post to it.  As long as we can limit who posts I don't have a problem.

Here are some of the raw ideas, directly from this thread. Anyone can use it how they like, for checklists and such.

I also think that a link to the LN app should be included.

Agree. the LN app for iPhone and Android. coolness. on the same note there, i recommend Aylì'uä fwewyu. my other faves are Tree of Voices and the upcoming Seeds of Language.

BUT:

there is a thread in projects. it is there as a table of contents of what the major projects are. should we just list that thread in useful threads? or should we take all the projects from it and link them individually? (does that make sense?)

Maria TunVrrtep

I think linking them individually is a better idea.  It reduces the chance that a user doesn't find what they are looking for.  I'm planning on a little description of each of the projects (just haven't gotten that far yet) so that users can see what the different projects are for.
And yes I agree the LN apps for iPhone and Android should definitely be included.

oh and the fact that Learn Na'vi is already out on the Apple App store. :3 (not sure about android cuz i dont one.)

überdoodlet

Linking it to the Current Projects Thread would be the fastest way, but personally, as a new user, I would rather click the link and see exactly what I clicked for, the project.

The android version is still being worked on to bring it into alignment with the iPhone Version.  Once that is done, it will be released into the Android Marketplace.

1 sentence should be good. Just enough to let people know what they're looking at.

And cool. Once on the android market, we can add that.

überdoodlet

We also could include a link to the infix chart, if not already included.

To help the brainstorming process along, try thinking like this...

You are a brand new user. You haven't done anything yet besides register and login operations, and you have done nothing post-wise so far. You fortunately stumble upon this guide. What help would you need?

Picking a good username?
Creating a signature or user avatar image? (the one below your name)
Filling out Profile?
Index Navigation?

What could we tell them as a "getting started" guide? So that even if they don't know everything, they can at least start to contribute by posting?

Seze

I just spent a couple hours updating this.  It should help you with finding most of the useful resources that are around.

Great! Just what we need! All we need is a couple descriptions and we'll be in good shape! Irayo!

That was a divvy mistake, I accidentally voted the wrong thing! Anyway, I would benefit from such an idea as this, but also I have an idea about how it should look.

You know how there are some of those pictures that people have for the avatars on the forum, that are part Na'vi and part human? I think it should have a picture of Jake or someone like that. Mainly, I think it should just be one of those types of pictures. But it doesn't have to, I just thought it'd be a cool idea.

So a half "avatar-ized" picture of Jake or someone? That could be cool...

Maria TunVrrtep

I'm confused.  Do you want someone to show how to do one in the handbook?  That's ok.  Although a bit out of scope of the Handbook.
