I have created an Anki deck containing all Na'vi vocabulary. It is available to download from among the publicly shared decks in Anki's database, called "Learn Na'vi - Dictionary Deck". In order to download it you will first need to install Anki, a free, cross platform flashcard program, available on Windows, Linux, Mac, iOS, Android, Maemo and several other mobile platforms. Then go to File>Download>Shared Deck and search for "Learn Na'vi - Dictionary Deck".
This deck was originally created and maintained using Tuiq's Eana Eltu tool. However, since the discontinuation of EE the Wiki dictionary is used as a source instead.

I have found that flashcards are an excellent way to learn vocabulary; using this deck I went from having to look up every other word to knowing the dictionary by heart in about a month. About 15-30 min / day is all that's needed.
There are no pronunciation examples as of yet, though I'm planning to add this in the future.

It includes three types of cards:

  • Na'vi to English, which shows you a Na'vi word and asks if you know the English translation.
  • English to Na'vi, which shows you an English definition and asks you to type in the Na'vi translation. This is intended to teach spelling.
  • Part of Speech, which shows you a Na'vi word and asks if you know which type of word it is. I'd recommend disabling this template until you know most of the definitions, since it's meaningless to know that 'awsiteng is an adverb unless you also know that it means "together". Words whose PoS is obvious (tì-, nì-, le-, si, etc.) are not included in this template. Verbs whose transitivity is not known are also not included.

There are a few differences between this deck and the Wiki dictionary, mostly in order to distinguish words that have the same English definition. There are also two additional tags aside from the regular part of speech tags: fnf. and lw., meaning flora & fauna and loan-word, respectively. These tags are there to allow easy disabling of these words, since they IMO are of lesser importance than others. If you disagree, don't disable them.

In order to receive updates to this deck, you must subscribe to it. Here's how:

  • Close your desktop client
  • Log in to your AnkiWeb account, then choose the deck you want to subscribe with
  • Go to "More > Deck subscriptions", and add dfd3cd2cd5e958fa
The subscription feature is still in beta, so it is currently not possible to subscribe through the desktop client.

i just got this to test it out. very nice. tho i found it annoying that words with glottal stops it only accepted a certain type of apostrophe and not the one that I have mapped to my default keyboard. i had to copy past the one it said was right and paste it just to get the answer right.

Yeah, the character is a typographic apostrophe. It's the character that Frommer has consistently been using to mark the glottal stop. You'll notice if you use your browser's search function to search for a typewriter apostrophe on na'viteri, you won't find anything (at least, nothing written by Frommer).

It would be preferable if any apostrophe-like character was accepted, but since Anki can't do that I opted to use the same character Frommer does for correctness's sake. If you prefer to use a regular apostrophe, you can open up the word list and "replace all".
Another way to do it is to map Alt + 0146/AltGr + shift + B/Option + Shift + ] to a macro key, if your keyboard supports those.

GASP. sigh. ok well i haz idea: map that character to the apostrophe position on kxwerty3!
which by the way im having trouble getting to work on Linux...almost there tho.

in any case. I like what you did here.

EDIT: question: is this built off the latest dictionary release? does it follow new dictionary releases?

The one on my hard drive does. Since no one seemed interested in this, I haven't updated it since I posted it. I'll post an up-to-date version in a minute.

cool. yeah cuz I think I like this a little better than JMemorize. not that i need to really learn a lot of vocab, just mainly to reinforce. tho there are a few words I havent used/seen as often and therefore dont know. and i never bothered to learn Flora and Fauna words besides the extremely common ones like ikran, palulukan, yerik, toruk and such.

Thanks :D

Key'ìl Nekxetse

I've been skipping the Proper nouns aswell ::)
Anki seems to have decided to always use XIM, which is quite useful, as it's using the keyboard mapping I set up. Why it does is a mystery. :-[

There, I finally figured out how to create a publicly shared deck in Anki. The latest version is now available to download directly from Anki's database. I have overhauled it a bit since the last version, see the OP.

Yeah, me too. This deck actually has specific tags for all flora & fauna, as well as for all loan-words, in order to allow for easy disabling. Or, in our case, easy enabling, since those are the only ones we don't know by heart ;D

Can I update the deck without loosing the progress data?

Thanks for updating it, and being able to disable Flora/fauna and loan words is a nice idea, thanks! 8)

Ah, I'm afraid not, sorry.
It was a bad idea to post the raw Anki-file here to begin with, but I didn't figure out how to upload it properly until just now. :-[

Edit: to clarify, you will be able to update "Learn Na'vi - Taronyu's Dictionary" through Anki without losing progress data once a new version is available, but there's no easy transition from the originally posted file to the new one.

Turns out updating through Anki is less trivial than I thought it was. You have to subscribe to the deck manually. Instructions on how to do this have been added to the OP.
The really dumb thing is that this would have worked with deck I uploaded originally. *keytsyokx*

Some stuff happened; anyone who has subscribed to the deck needs to re-subscribe with the new key in the OP.
I've also changed all the ':s to ':s, because I realized Frommer has in fact been using both. See here.

Totally using this EVERYDAY over my break.  This is excellent, as it breaks everything down about individual words into individual questions.

I'm not sure the automatic upgrade mechanism works, it doesn't seem to have any effect. :-\

Well, not a lot of stuff has happened in the past week. Two words have been added: var and nìftxan. If you have those, everything is as it should be. If not, then something is broken.

Something's broken. I expect I did something wrong; I've added the key to the list of 'sources' in the deck that I downloaded through Anki.

That's how you're supposed to do it. Something appears to be seriously amiss with Anki's subscription mechanism; I've done some experimenting, and it seems that Anki can't even find the deck it's supposed to sync to. When I try to sync manually (Ctrl+Shift+Y), it says:

Checking deck subscriptions...
1f6ccf2cd03de8cd: no longer exists.
Check complete.

Which is wrong; it does exist, I assure you.

However, I found that I could get it to sync successfully by using Tools>Advanced>Check Database and then immediately restarting Anki after it's done. See if that works for you.

Edit: New key again: dfd3cd2cd5e958fa. I thought maybe Anki didn't like characters like ' and - in deck names, so I created a new one without them. No dice.
