Seed of Language: Version 2.0.0

Finally, the major new version of Seed of Language is available as a beta-version! This version now uses the .NET-Framework 3.5, thus you won't need a Java Virtual Machine and on Windows the program will be much faster than 1.x-versions.
If you want to try running this on Linux/Macintosh, you can use the Mono-Framework or Wine - I haven't been able to try starting the program this way, but if someone succeeds, he's welcome to tell me :)

Some of the new features are:

- New design of the windows
- New lesson format (this format is much faster than the old one, and easy to understand)
- Faster playing of audio-examples
- New way for displaying lessons with images
- More beautiful design of the lesson-window (Font with shadow, etc..)
- Saving of the last repetition
- Better support for other languages - the program will automatically choose the language of your country (if supported, otherwise English)
- .. and much more!

Alas, you can't use lessons for 1.x-versions of the program - perhaps I'll write a converter, but not in near future. Thus everyone, who creates new lessons is welcome! If someone is interested in the new lesson-format, take a look into the file located at Lessons/Introduction.txt.

Perhaps there'll be a small update for the old version, but remember that this new version will be primarily supported.

Hey there! :D

you know, this sounds REALLLY  A lot like Tree of Voices....XD I'll check it out.

EDIT: got it to work on Linux. It seems exactly like a TOV that works on Linux...but one of the things i really liked about TOV is that you can click on the word in question and hear the audio of it, and below are three possible pictures to choose from. these were pic-txt lessons.

txt-txt is not bad. this is a nice lil program. I shall follow its development. THank you for making a linux version! :D <hopefully a mac version comes soon as many here use mac as well>

Well, it's possible to hear an audio example, but since I haven't found some spoken Na'vi-words yet, I wasn't able to create a lession that way. Text-image could be possible, but I like this way more and it's much easier :p
And nice to hear that it works under Linux! If some people are really interested in a Mac-version, I will build one, but neither in this week nor in the next cos I have things to do ..
Thanks for the feedback!

(And I hope that ToV is a bit different - beginning with its image to text association and that it isn't as platform-independent as my program. And I like this program more :p)

Yes. I will certainly help you out on any Na'vi word. if you need a recording of any word or set of words, I can make some and give them to you for lessons. I also can PROBABLY start making lessons for this thing. the more lessons, the more users there will be.

Hufwe Atxur

That sounds great! So if you have any words matching with the vocabulary in the first lession or if you want to create lessions, I would be very thankful. So I'd be able to demonstrate the audio-examples.

if by this you mean make audio for the words in the german lessons, I can do that. how did you want me to get them to you?

Hufwe Atxur

The first German lession equals to the first English lession and if you really have the spoken Na'vi words to this lession you can upload it at the page whose link I sent you! Thanks for your efforts :)

Kaltxì!

I just wanted to point out that there is a word bank of MP3 files available at this thread: http://forum.learnnavi.org/audio/spoken-na%27vi-words/

Not entirely sure if that's what you need, but I'd thought I'd point it out, just in case you weren't aware of it!

Update or "Mac is back"!
Today I've been working on a Mac-version and finished the v1 for OS X a few minutes ago. I tested it under a friends Mac and it works but without the audio-examples (I'll try to include them as soon as possible). Also it's possible that the program's design doesn't look good at all cos I built the program under Windows. (just a question: how does the program look under Linux?)
With this version you won't have to update your Java-version to 1.6 - it works with the standard build-in version from OS X (which is 1.5 - I hope the Mac-developers will build an update!!). So, as said the audio-example support isn't included because of several problems - I'll try to solve them.

You may download the Mac-version here: http://xb6278.xb6.serverdomain.org/html/rinalifyayae_mac.zip

the program looks just fine under Ubuntu 10.04

here is a cropped screenshot of it upon running in a terminal, then a complete screenshot upon opening a lesson. It works well also. every function works correctly.

EDIT: i cannot open the .jar from a file browser, but it works very well to use a terminal to cd to the directory where the .jar is and then:

$ java -jar rinalifyayae.jar

as the website said

Well it should be possible to run the JAR without the terminal. Maybe this site helps: http://superuser.com/questions/78989/configure-ubuntu-to-run-jar-file-by-duble-clicking-on-it

I actually did that as soon as i downloaded and extracted...i can right click on it and the first option is to run with java runtime...personally, I dont have a problem with needing to run in a terminal...it doesnt run from the file browser when i tell java to run it.

Hufwe Atxur

Well it's just important for a user who isn't familiar with the terminal. Back to topic: I'm glad to announce that the newest lession (Interjections) includes some audio-examples I found in the forum. They're said to be free for community projects, but if I violate anyones copyright I'm sorry. In this case I'll remove the audio-files.
If you have some suggestions for v1.2, please post them here:

* Plugin for the download-manager: Just display lession that are either English or German or both

Update: v1.1 available!
v1.1 includes some bugfixes and the features I've spoken from in the previous post.

Fixed bugs:
* Up to now there was always one question less questioned than available. This "bug" was fixed in this version (did anyone notice it?)

New features:
* You can select whether you want only English/German or both lessions to be displayed in the download-manager.

What might be more interesting is that now the Macintosh-version supports audio-examples! Today I got the idea how to solve this annoying bug and it worked in simulation instantly. But it would be better if a Mac-user tested it cos the Mac where I'm testing the program isn't mine and the owner wonders about the strange unknown words displayed in the program ;)
This means that the Mac-version now has the same features as the Linux/Windows-version!

Everything can be downloaded from the website. Just replace the directory "rinalifyayae" with the new one. All the files (ZIP,Setup) are now up to date: http://xb6278.xb6.serverdomain.org/html/info.php

If you have feedback or any suggestions for the v1.2, please post it here. I'm happy about feedback :)

I'm now working on v1.2 which'll include the following features:

* Play the audio-example again by clicking on the questioned vocabulary
* Save the lession-statistics to a database and display the saved statistics in a table

So if there are bugs in the current version, or if there are any pending feature-requests, please post them here and I will include them if possible. I now have the time to include more features.
But actually I wanted to ask someone if he could check the English translation-file. I've written the translation somewhere around midnight, and there might be some stupid errors I haven't seen yet. The translation can be found in /bin/lang/EN.lang
It could help me if someone corrects it :)

And there are now two audio-guided lessions available - so if someone wants to test it .. the name is "Pronouns".

Update: v1.2 available!
I hope I'm not alone in this thread ):

I actually planned to release the v1.2 this Saturday but because I fortunately finished the work earlier, you can use this program already today :)
v1.2 includes some major new features and bugfixes; as it was with v1.1, I strongly recommend an update to this version. Well, but what's new?

* Lesson-statistic is saved in a database and this results can be viewed in a (sortable) table.
* Some bugs were removed (see the CHANGELOG.txt-file for furthermore information)
* The audio-example can be replayed by clicking on the questioned vocabulary
* The English language-file was updated a bit - some stupid errors should've been removed

So this version is (in my opinion) the best until now, and I'd be happy if I get some feedback - or does the program run nowhere/with problems?

Note: Because someone asked me via eMail about the creation of new lessons: It ain't necessary to convert the lesson with the converter available on the website. You just have to save the file with UTF-8 encoding (that can be set in the "Save as"-dialog or in the "Encoding" menu-item in the menubar). The encoding is important cos Java works with this encoding, and this encoding is necessary to display some Na'vi special chars.

I've also updated the website a bit - the design looks now a bit better, and I've added some menu-items. I bought a domain for the website: it can be reached either via http://www.ayeltu-lefngap.net or with http://rinalifyayae.ayeltu-lefngap.net - so there's no cryptic-looking domain anymore! The English-language file from the website was also updated a bit .. but that's not very important ;)

You can download the program from the website - the URL is above. Have fun with it and Eywa ngahu!
(Program tested under Windows XP/7 32-bit and Macintosh OS X 10.unknown)

Irayo for the new version!

I was just going through the new website sections in the English site, and in the What is Na'vì? section, you have a put a link to some sort of video, but all the link does is keep me at the page I'm actually reading, so I never see the video!
