The cast of Avatar went on a trip to a real jungle, it's hinted at in one of the behind-the-scenes featurettes. This would have been a very important part in the actors' pre-mocap training...

Does anybody know anything about how they trained? Did they rehearse in the jungle or something? Where was the jungle? (I'm sure it was said in the video but I can't remember D:)

Haha, so many questions  ???

Before the filming began they went to Hawaii with the cast and costumes(the ones that Jake, Norm and Grace wear in the beginning) and just hiked a bit and admired the nature, to get them in the right mindset.

This video has some nice footage about how they trained(past the 5 minute mark). Zoe and the other na'vi cast went through some acrobatic and fysical training, learning to move and behave like a na'vi. Jake and the rest of the marines went through an intense and simplified marine corps regimen, firearms and close combat training, the scientists propably talked to some real scientists to learn the ropes. Lasting from a few weeks to some months, depending on the role. Stephen Lang got lessons in the amp-suit prop(jealous about that) and Michelle Rodriguez learned to fly a helicopter for real.

And the lessons in na'vi language of course.
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

Certainly taking the concept of "Character" to a new level.  There was some great footage there, lets hope we get some more soon.

In regards to this, after Cameron's trip to the Amazon to try to help natives there fight a government supported dam it was rumored/said that he plans on bringing back cast members from Avatar to see/help with their plight. I imagine that this will not only be useful for the cause of the natives but will also help out the actors in their understanding of how their characters would/will feel in the upcoming sequels.

I remember seeing that behind the scenes epsisode on TV, the actors put in so much work to get into the frame of mind of the characters they were portraying, the fact that they went to the jungle and did all the other extra stuff like balance training etc was very impressive.
Anyone feel free to add me on msn or skype: [email protected]

It's a luxury for actors to be able to have much of their research be paid for by the studio. I know, as an actor, that there is nothing more awkward than being asked to film or perform something unprepared; by unprepared, I of course am not referring to memorized lines and such, but rather to in-depth character research. I would love to be able to work on something with a large enough budget (and an understanding-enough director) to finance this type of stuff. Good for them!

Hehe, that is cute ;D but why not do the full body suit and add some blue paint to the faces? That might've made it even cuter ^^
