Yayo

Yayo is this week's Mathematician of the Week! Seykxel sì nitram! Yayo has been paired with Ptolemy.

    1. Who are you?
Hello there! My name is Callum but I am known to the wider LearnNavi.org community as Yayo or The Bird. I'm sixteen years old and hail from Perth, Western Australia. I was born in Fremantle, Western Australia and have loved living in Perth ever since my birth.
    2. What brought you to the Mathematics and Statistics board?
Well, I sort of incepted it but that's another story. In short, it just appeared here and I thought I'd check it out.
    3. For how long have you liked Math?
Probably the end of year 10. Before that, I had hated the very concept of mathematics and refused to involve myself in anything that was remotely related to it. I now love it.
    4. What subjects/jobs do you do which involve Math? What do you do?
I'm taking Calculus and AP Calculus equivalent mathematics subjects and am also taking Physics and Chemistry; two other subjects that I sincerely love.
    5. What Math-related subjects did you take in High School? Or if you are a student, what are you currently studying?

    • Mathematics 3A/3B
    • Mathematics: Specialist 3A/3B
    • Chemistry 2A/2B
    • Physics 2A/2B
I'm currently in year 11 at the moment and the units I'm taking now will move onto 3C/3D (for Mathematics) and 3A/3B (for Physics and Chemistry).
    [/list]
    6. What is your favourite number? Why?
It would have to be 21. It's the whole purpose of Blackjack and it's kind of cool, since I'm into card counting and all.
    7. Who is your favourite Mathematician/Scientist. Why?
I would definitely have to say Walter Lewin. He's the Professor of Physics at MIT and watching some of his lectures online, he comes across not only as a very passionate man but one who would make hit his utmost priority to help a student succeed.
    8. What is your favorite function in math and why?
I love playing around with functions, increasing the highest order. I would have to say that my favourite function would be the Signum Function. If you know of it, you'll know why.
    9. Three statements about yourself - True or false? - The community has to answer
    1. I have 3 dogs
    2. I am fluent in Latin
    3. I am 6'5"
    10. Pi or Tau?
Don't even bother asking. Tau is disgusting and Pi remains the only applicable/logical constant.
    11. Do you prefer to work in degrees or Rads?
I must say that I've taken a shine to working in Radians. It seems like such a more defined system.
    12. Calculatorly or manually?
I used to love working without a calculator but my teacher insisted that I use the one I have so I have started to use it. Yeah, it's growing on me.
    13. Joke time!
    Uh...
What did the i say to the 3?
    "You're imaginary!"
    14. Do you feel the temptation in tests to write your justifications in Na'vi?
Heck no. My teachers are pretty picky already and I'm sure they'd deduct marks if I were to write Na'vi on a test paper.
    15. Do you like Physics too?
Of course I do and I feel like an idiot for writing this question.
    16. Real-Life Picture (Optional)
Refer to the Real Life Picture Thread. I'm sure there's one of me sitting in the snow with only just board shorts on.
    17. Do you have any other hobbies?
I enjoy reading - strictly literary fiction only. I also play Ultimate Frisbee - I'm scheduled to have a tournament this weekend. I also enjoy languages. Since learning Na'vi, I've moved onto Russian and French and I am still learning them.
    18. This is the story
I was terrified. As soon as I understood what was going on, I threw myself out of the window.

Thanks to Eywa'eveng-tìranyu for asking me to be MotW - I am honored.
