We had a slight griefing problem earlier today with someone setting fire to everything.  I will probably look into implementing some sort of whitelisting policy on the server.  Something to prove you are part of the Learn Na'vi community, probably just a basic question in na'vi.  Until I get that done, the server will let anyone in.  If you see any trouble, just report any offending users here, and they will be removed from the server.  Also, I do keep hourly backups, so if something really bad happens, know that I can roll the server back to an earlier state if necessary, which is what we did to undo all the arson damage that happened earlier...

There are, respectively, op and admin commands in the Minecraft server console.
Alternatively, one can just add usernames to the op.txt/admin.txt files to make them ops/admins (when the server isn't running, of course).

Is this only for beta or does it also work for classic?

The server is running the beta version.  Also, I am running McMyAdmin on the server, which makes it pretty easy to add admins and moderators to the server.  As the amount of people on the server grows, so does the need for moderators.  Currently its Payoang and Myself as admins, and there are no moderators listed as of yet.  I have no problems adding members of this forum as moderators, I just need to know that you are actually an active person in this community, which should be pretty easy to tell by replying to this thread.

I am also planning on adding Bukkit to the server once they get a stable version released, which could be as soon as a few days or as long as a month or two.  Once I can get that added, it should make protecting our world a lot simpler by adding more usage controls.

I was on it earlier to check it out and see what people built so far, my name on mc is EanikranTaronyu :P

I feel your pain about griefers, I had one come in my server last night cause I left it on all night for my friend to go in. they can be verrrryyyy bad if your server happens to have a fairly complex underwater city >:( we spent from about noon until 6 rebuilding the destroyed parts >:(

I won't pull that sh*t, ever. :D

One thing I heard about is you put some blocks around the spawn point and disable building privelages to people who just came in and test them to see if they're from the forum, then you let them out and give them privileges. Dunno if you need a mod for the privileges thing though ???

You used to be able to do something like that with the Hey0 mod, which is now unavailable due to the project being abandoned and the current builds of minecraft are no longer compatible with it.  What I would like to do is either prevent all access to the server by unregistered people, or make it so that you can't edit anything until you are added to the server, so you could walk around and look at everything.  Unfortunately I can't implement most of this behavior until a server modding platform is built.  Bukkit is one such platform, but it is still early in its development cycle.

yeah, I heard it was pretty tough to put mods on a server, a lot different than regular SP anway. is it running the the official server software?

Most of it was from myself and a few of my non na'vi friends.

When I was in there earlier I saw some minor damage to some of the stone slab bridges and I figured it was the aforementioned griefers behind it ::)  just thought I'd let you know :P

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but there is a way to do this without an add-on. An admin/op can give themselves blocks, and what you can do is spawn bedrock (it is unbreakable) and place it around the spawn such that no one can leave that area until an admin teleports them out of that spot.

That is how the internet works. It's fueled by the frustration of bad connections.

My internet is terrible... I wish I could get in and meet a bunch of you guys...  :(

It takes to long for it to connect and so stops trying.
