The makers of Avatar: The Last Airbender have said that they were making a show that was heavily influenced by anime. While not really an anime, it still has the feel of one.

The show has changed me a bit. Seeing all of the martial arts on it has improved mine somewhat. A couple ideas I have had while training have been influenced by the show.

I am not too happy about the mostly white cast for the movie, but that is only because I do not feel as if they portray the characters well. Of course, they are good actors, but they are too different for me. With Uncle not being "fat", he does not seem like uncle to me...

What is really stupid is that the Fire Nation is either black or Mexican/Asian looking while the Sokka and Katara don't.

They got the kid from Slumdog Millionare (I think) to be Zuko. I have only seen one or two other Firebenders, and not all of them look "black or mexican". They could say it is because they are from a different country, so they all look different.

If you don't like the choice made about the ethnicity in the Live Action movie.  Don't watch it.

The race of the characters is irrelevant.  They are not on Earth, they are on an imaginary world, an alternate reality, their nationalities and structure of civilization and evolution is all fictional.  That is the point.

To relate more accurate to the vision of the show, try applying this thought process when looking at its arrangement.

Imagine if China, which is more represented by the Earth Kingdom than the other Nations in the show, was the most civilized cultural and educational influence on the entire world, and everyone regardless of ethnicity was taoist, Buddhist, read and wrote in Chinese.

Imagine if the Caucasians of that world were living as monks because instead of becoming conquering vikings, decided to live philosophical and purely spiritual lives.

And in direct opposition, the Malaysian and east Indians became misguided imperialistic conquerers.

The world of Avatar has turned all of the cultural and ethnic conventions of stereotypical story telling on its head, I would be more worried about if the main characters' actors can play the roles with believable emotion and drive that the voice actors conveyed.

I don't really mind the actor choice really. I'm just afraid that this is going to be like Dragon Ball Evolution.

On that point, I must whole heartedly agree...

Well, I guess we'll find out in two months if it sucks or not.

Oh, and confirm or deny this for me, I recall reading somewhere that The Last Air Bender will be in (post production) 3D?

The previews shown during the "How to train your dragon." movie would seem to confirm this.

Yeah... that's the reason i don't wait it's release like for example Prince of Persia's, but still... it certainly worth a try... In the worst case we'd still get a film with lots of bending action, what can make it better (if you saw the cartoon... nostalgia :D).

But still let's hope :D ;)

The show's creators, and M.night are veterans of their craft.

If they truly cared about the experience of the audience, it will show in the movie.

I for one am not going to guess, I plan to see for myself at least once.
