Since there is no Cartoons section I am posting this here.

A place to discus possibly the greatest show ever.

The ultimate power is found in the incorruptible light hidden deep in the darkness. You must delve into the darkest part of your heart and find that light. Once you do, never let go of it. Remember: Your heart is the greatest weapon of all.

Avatar is Avatar, even if it's the Last Airbender ;)
I usually think about cartoons like animes (why didn't you put this topic there? ;)), and AtLA is definitely one of the bests!

I like it, great cartoon, but it's slightly annoying that it shares the name of the film :P

I am not familiar with this show. Should this topic be moved to the anime board?

I think that that would be a good idea.
Avatar the last airbender is a kind of anime :P

But it's not. AtLA is NOT an anime. Why? Because it wasn't made in Japan. So yeah.

This is probably a good place to leave the topic then.

I enjoyed the show, the live action Last Air Bender has me a bit nervous, I hope M.Night came out of his lameness shell and got back his story telling chops, when he is good, he is very good, but the Happening was a souring disappointment for me, and I was at that time a pretty hard core fan of his work.

As far as ATLA is concerned, the concept of realistic depictions of the cost of war was very well constructed, and the complexity of the characters and the arc of characters like Toph, Sokka, and Zuko was very good for a show that was supposedly targeted towards teens.

The studio that was hired out of Korea to animate this show, works very heavily with Japanese Anime, and they use the Manga production style of animation.  It is not a coincidence that they were used, the creators of the TV show apparently were anime fans themselves.

It's still not an anime because it wasn't made in Japan.

The story should be good sinse the writers of the siries are a part of the writing staff. I'm interested to see how they handle Aang's giant water monster at the end.

I just got done watching Book 1 through Netflix instant play. It is still awesome.

The end of it isn't the only question:

I don't remember seeing Kyoshi "create" the islands. I remember seeing it on TV but not in my now finished marathon of season 1.

If they do it, I can't wait to see them show Aang's airbending that he used against the lava.

Actually anime is a style, not a location.   Even Japanese companies farm Manga style animation out to Korea now.

No, not quite. It is both. Bleach is an anime AtLA is an animesque cartoon.

Hmmm... could it be that it isn't in that part?... Maybe just in "Avatar day"?... i still think it was mentioned (at least) though...

And AtLA is really a cartoon and not an anime. Just look it up, you'll see ;)
(and between cartoons and animes the only difference i can think of is that animes are japan and cartoons are american...)

That IS the only difference between an anime and an animesque cartoon.

Than that's the reason i couldn't think any more differences! ;)

No, not quite. It is both. Bleach is an anime AtLA is an animesque cartoon.

Anime as it is defined in the dictionary, is actually the current English usage? That is not necessarily from the original correct usage.

Anime as it is defined by the Japanese is a generalization of all forms of animation, it was even originated from the truncation of the word "Animation" when including speaking about Mickey Mouse back when the word was first coined.

The Manga style of animation is an assembly line production method of illustration that is taught as route or formulaic, and repeatable, and this is where the English variant originally pointed the arrow of the term.  That style was later lumped together in slang usage as "Anime", which still is not correct usage.

So I am guessing that what has now become common usage is the readopted slang variant of the truncation of the word Animation?

May as well call it Japanamation like people were attempting in the 90's... =/
