Man of Steel (2013) AKA Superman

Man of Steel (2013) - Really enjoyed this movie.

A friend of mine hit the nail on the head when he said they altered the mythos to create this movie, and I think it was done for the better.

It will not be like the older Superman movies, and it does things very differently from the comics, but hit has many familiar components, and they fit together nicely with the narrative, which I actually find myself wishing was a bit longer.

Zack Snyder's visual aesthetic works well for presenting the alienness of Kryptonian technology. Their tech has become more like nano technology and less crystals everywhere.

In many ways, Man of Steel more science fiction than Super Hero movie, but the DC universe had much of that kind of background to its Super Heroes, with many of them having very alien origins.

Krypton looks like a cool and unusual place.

There is a subtle nod to Lexcorp, but Lex Luthor does not appear.

Zod's minions are depicted as a genuine and motivated threat, and dangerously so.

The action and violence heavy climax and conflict is on a scale that had not been seen in live action depictions of Superman, but more frequently in the animated incarnations. The Kryptonian-on-Kryptonian violence reminded me of watching the Justice league (2001 - 2006) cartoon. I loved that show...

For live action Superhero fighting, since humans can not do those things, they end up as special effects heavy art projects. The best work suspends audience disbelief, so that a viewer feels like the hero is actually in that environment doing battle. I think in 90% of what happens, this was done well; but, in some places, I think in trying to show us what it was like for people to watch Kryptonians fight, probably could have been a bit more polished, but that is picking nit.

Superman breaks with the traditional life preserving boyscout mentality... but, I will not spoil how he does, you should just watch it.

There is no after credits scene, but I wish there was one.
