I saw firefly for the first time yesterday, and I watched all episodes (like there is many of them) today... It's the best serial ever and I don't understande why they didn't make the season 2... I didn't watch the movie yet, i'll do it tomorow but I actually don't wanna watch it b/c I know that then the Firefly will be over (no more episodes to watch)  :(

You can watch them again, they get better with repeat viewings. And, not only did they not make a series 2, they didn't even get to finish series 1 which I think was really harsh of fox.

Indeed ... this is an argument I have repeatedly had with my best friend, he reckons he was a Reaver, I say he's someone who was so [expletive deleted] up that the only way he could deal with it was to try to become like one.

You might want to spoiler that (well just one sentence) just in case someone who hasn't seen the film comes across this thread.  ;)

Anyway, the reason Whedon made them more real is that Serenity represented how he'd wanted to conclude the series (after finishing or at least rounding off the hands of blue story arc) and, to tell that story, he'd have struggled to have done it without making them a more visible present, at least he kept them off screen a lot more than most people would have done.

As for the guy in Bushwakced, he wasn't exposed to the Pax (as far as we know) so he might not have been a proper reaver but, given the way he acted there was clearly no reason for the crew to distinguish between him and a reaver so why need there be one for the audience?

It's even sadder they couldn't finish series 1.

But don't you think that kind of makes it even better, even more "precious" ... a bit like James Dean & Marilyn Munroe dying so young and becoming instant late stars?

More precious yes, but I think that Firefly would have needed at least 3 series to properly deal with all the issues (assuming that, as Whedon says, Serenity was an attempt to sum up everything he'd wanted to do with Firefly) and, had it done that, it would be a nice, finished series, like dollhouse, for which two series was enough to adequately explore the characters and themes.

It didn't succeed, at least for me ... whilst I did like some bits of Serenity, the whole just seemed like a completely different beast.

Dollhouse was another I just didn't get into ... I watched 3, maybe 4 eps and then gave up. People have told me I should watch more but I don't see the point ... unless it radically shifts (shifted) direction of course. Of course I'd rather watch more Dollhouse (and repeats of Serenity) than subject myself to "Lost" (I lasted only 15 minutes on that) ... my favourites always seem to get cancelled, fortunately "True Blood" and "Dexter" seem to be exceptions to that.

1. Well, that's because he had to squeeze two and a bit series into one film, he wasn't really given a chance to make it work properly.

2. Dollhouse certainly is a very different beast, the end of the first series is better than the start so if you get a chance to watch it again, please do, and please stay with it longer, it's a great show once you get into it.

They even showed the film & series here in Germany on TV! But if I remember rightly the series was shown at some crappy time, don't know why. I liked the series, was somehow different than other series.

It had been on at a good time but then Fox decided they hated it, and the only way Whedon managed to get as much as he did of a series was by letting them move it to the crappy timeslot no-one could watch, this meant more and more people watched it online which meant viewing figures fell because of the system they use, and so, gave Fox an excuse to cancel it.

And the differentness, that would be Whedon, take a look at some of his other serieses, Buffy, Angel or Dollhouse, also you can watch all of Dr Horrible's sing-along-blog on youtube for free legally (it's in 6 parts, act 1 part 1, act 1 part 2, act 2 part 1 etc.).  :)

Maybe but you know how it is ... so many shows, not enough time to watch them all and you sometimes simply have to decide what to watch and what not to. Dollhouse wasn't specifically bad it just didn't hook me so, despite my daughter's infatuation with it (and possession of the DVD's), I just gave up. I did it with Angel too (loved Buffy but got bored of Angel) but my daughter had the season 5 boxset (I'd dropped at the end of Season 4) and for some reason one day I just decided to watch it ... bit of a let-down (more like a cliff-hanger) but I got there.

Thing is, not only am I watching what I'm watching (HD recorded episodes), I have maybe 10 or more series to watch just waiting on DVD (plus several more to re-watch including the awesome Babylon 5 ... fortunately I hated Battlestar Galactica's ending so much I won't put myself through watching it again, indeed I think I might as well sell the three seasons I have) ... it all becomes an issue of time.
