The Dragon Affair my last fanfic, non Avatar related.

I like him. It makes sense that the Doctor would look a little older looking. It makes him look wiser.

It seems unusual that the last two doctors have chosen to leave after a third series/season.

But, it probably seems like a magic number for them to move on with their careers rather than getting pigeonholed.

Sylvester McCoy is in the Hobbit.
Paul McGann is doing mostly TV shows.
Christopher Eccleston is now playing Malekith, the leader of the Dark Elves in Thor 2, he tends to avoid revisiting roles but has been very busy.
David Tennant has been in a couple of recognizable Movie roles, but has been mostly on TV.
Matt Smith is more or less just jumping into the game, I wonder what he will be doing next.

Peter Capaldi has had some interesting internet memes appear surrounding some of his prior characters inside and outside of the show. This is probably the most entertaining regeneration I have seen, and it hasn't even happened yet in the show's continuity.

The 50th Anniversary is showing in theaters,  I am catching it near my home.

Anyone else going to see it on the big screen?

I am sadly at a dance that night (the organizers were silly people, and they know it.  :P ::) ) but I'm definitely catching up on it the first chance I get.

I do wonder how they are going to address the fact that Capaldi was also Caecilius in "Fires of Pompeii" and John Frobisher in Torchwood's Children of Earth.

Collin Baker, the sixth Doctor, first appeared in 1983 story Arc of Infinity, where he played Commander Maxil. In 1984 he became the first Doctor to have appeared as a different character previously on the show.

[Speculation by archaic]It's possible that all his regenerated forms have been people he met previously, but who's meetings were not necessarily recorded.[/Speculation by archaic]

It has been suggested that there may be something said on the subject during the show. It was never clear why humans look like time lords or vice versa anyhow.

For the time being, it will be one of many mysteries, like the true name of The Doctor.

I thought the "explanation" was that humans stole Time Lord technology at or near the end of the universe.  :P

There is fan and writer speculation about that, but it never appeared in the show.

The idea of humans evolving into Time Lords is a very popular one with some Doctor Who writers. It never made it onto TV (because the show was canceled before Andrew Cartmel could execute his Masterplan), but hints have come up repeatedly in novels (and in online discussions involving some of the authors). There are three main variations on the idea:

  • Humans will replace Gallifreyans as the Time Lords at some point in the future. This was Cartmel's idea, and there are hints of it in some of the NA novels, and some of the BFAs written after the new series started have revived it.
  • Gallifreyans are the descendants of humans in some timey-wimey way. This was Larry Miles' idea, and there are hints in some of the early EDA novels and a few BFAs.
  • After Gallifrey was removed from history (the first time, in the middle of the EDAs), the surviving Time Lords needs a new history that didn't involve Gallifrey, and that new history was that they were descended from humans. This was Justin Richards' idea, but he later decided he hated it, so there are hints in some of the later EDA novels, but then it's completely ruled out in Sometime Never....

And many other species, it's because the BBC didn't have big budgets to spend on lots of rubber suits every episode and back in the early days CGI hadn't been invented!

They did alright, the first appearances of Daleks and Cybermen were sufficiently creepy for the time.

I like Peter Capaldi as Doctor, but I think that this Doctor was more... cruel? Cruel and hard put to it...
I do not know how to continue to develop the image of Doctor. I hope the authors will not destroy the image of the good wanderer who tries to solve everything peacefully.
But I would like this new perspective: a more serious and more tragic. It's hard to be Doctor, it is difficult to save all.

I think that this Doctor was more damaged, psychologically. Clara can't find any love for his new regeneration and goes off with someone else, Danny Pink. She's not subtle or caring about it, and has no concern for his feelings there. She can't see him as the man she loved as the doctor, the two men are not one and the same in her mind, but different and irreconcilable people. IMHO.
