TOOTHLESS IS SO DAMN ADORABLE!!!

This movie is definitely worth watching. I'm looking forward to own it when it comes out  ;)

This is indeed true. I couldn't help myself from awwwwwing.

absolutely true. my whole group keep on aww-ing.. too much actually. We aww at everything lol

I hope they do the rest of the books as well.  Even if they don't match the books exactly, there is plenty of story material there for two more films I think.

I didn't know they were books
Do you know where I may get them?

Hmm, I need to get out and see this one.  Is it based on a book, by any chance?  Those names sound familiar to me for some reason.

I knew those names looked familiar!  I must have read one of those books in middle school or something.  Dang I still need to see the movie 8)

Just seen Clash and Dragon back to back.
Clash: Good 2d movie. 3d conversion sucked. see in 2d if you can help it, as 3d DOES make picture worse.
Dragon: awesome, Lightstorm needs to learn from dreamworks how to setup flight scenes in 3d.
Where is my NDD fix?

there's another thing that bugs me, the girl umm Astrid, I can't help but noticing that she only likes Hiccups after she knows he's working with dragons.. almost as if she wouldn't get close to him at first coz she thinks he's lame.. not the typical 'good' girl in cartoons but oh well XD

In my opinion, she starts to like him because he showed her a different side of something she had hated and changed her whole life in about 5 hours or so. Hiccup was about the only constant thing in that equation.

Agreed. Also keep in mind that from what she'd seen before that part, Hiccup was a weird, reclusive airhead, and even then she never makes fun of him when everyone else does (I figured she liked him from the beginning, though that could have just been because she was obviously the designated love interest).

Afterward she learns that a) he wasn't lying when he claimed to have shot down the rare dragon and b) he's the best dragon fighter because he was intelligent and kind enough to empathize with the dragons and give them a chance. He then shows her what he figured out, that the dragons aren't the monsters everyone thinks they are, and they go on an eventually romantic dragon flight.

Forgot to comment on the movie. I loved it! Just got back from seeing it this afternoon.

I love animated movies like Dragon because it's so obvious that the people working on it cared about the movie. In animated movies, animated movies for a family audience especially, DreamWorks animated movies for a family audience especially, we too often get a script that feels like it was written by a team of incompetent business executives (kids movie = fart jokes and pop culture references right?) and an end product that looks like it was directed and animated by people who just didn't care.

Dragon is the exact opposite: the story was simple but imaginative and emotional, the dialogue was humorous with nary a pop culture reference in sight, and the direction, animation, and voice talent were all top notch. Specifically, the character modeling and animation was far better than is typically seen in a DreamWorks picture, because there were relatively few locations in the story, the level of detail that went in made each one compelling, the score was fun, and many voice actors were cast who you might even expect to see in their role in a live action picture (who wouldn't cast Gerard Butler as the loud and heroic viking leader?). I particularly liked the sequence where Hiccup first goes out flying on the dragon Toothless. Not sure if it was the animation or the direction, but you really feel like you're there along for the ride.

I'm sad to see it's not doing so well at the box office. Please, please go and see this movie instead of Clash of the Titans or Alice in Wonderland. DreamWorks has been slowly approaching Pixar in quality for some time, and I think they're just about there. Vote with your wallet and keep them making good movies.

Niwantaw

i haven't yet seen it but i have had the book for ages
Only mostly AWOL.

I am not able to understand what is considered doing well and what is considered doing poorly at the box office anymore.

Movie A = 60 Million
Movie B = 48 Million

With numbers like these, I can see there being some execs looking at their bonuses and thinking that they are not going to be able to buy a 20th mansion, but come on, that is a pretty good turn out I think.

I've seen clash of the titans and I can actually say that it wasn't bad at all, so what if it was about action, sometimes that's just what people want to see. The movie wasn't originally intended for 3-d and while it's 3-d version wasn't near as good as the movies that were meant for 3-d, it wasn't that bad.

I really don't pay attention to rottentomatoes, basically every movie is given a bad score and even Avatar I think only got like 83% (which is like a B-) or something like that.

I'm sorry, I don't want to get into this as it's off topic, so I'm just going to remove that part from my post.

True. Sometimes professional film critics can get pretty pretentious (they especially tend to snub science fiction films and action films). However, when the average film critic and top film critic approval ratings are below 40%, and the community ratings are hovering around 50% . . .

For the record, Avatar got 82%/94%, which actually makes it one of the highest rated films in its genre.

The book is good but (I would guess as with the film) is more aimed at children, but it's still a good read.

So, is this worth catching in 3D (Dragon) or can I wait for the blue-ray?

MaTe

3d totally worth it at least for perfectly setup flying scenes - you can feel the Gs(or lack of them) :)

This movie was fun, and exciting.  I thought it was a more compelling adventure than Clash of the Titans.
