So, what we are saying is:

How To Train Your Dragon is too good for the philistines who run the Oscars?

At the heart of the Oscars is jaded pessimism, politics, and conceit.

The judges believe they know the best and the worst of movies, and that their decisions hold sway over what the world will choose to watch.

It is possible for many people, they choose to follow the reasoning of the Oscars, and see the movies that win, but usually by the time to movie wins it is out on DVD and not in the theater any longer.

I think it is a nice gesture to win, but if you please the Oscars, you probably have made a very different film than Avatar, LOTR, or How to Train your Dragon.

Kind of interesting that considering that they have to deliberately animate every pixel, vertex, and texture of every frame right down to the Dragon's retractable teeth.  It would seem that it was intentional to have them rendered on the first render, but the re renders of that sequence did not catch those frames.  I blame editing.

Maybe they originally had another second of clip in there where he extends his teeth but had to cut it out to save time?

There's some stuff in Avatar, I put that down to Cameron deliberately inserting it to help you forget that its cgi. This might be the same.

I'd say the music is top notch and Oscar worthy, especially the scenes where hiccup and toothless first get to know each other, that music is what brought me back to the theater, I thought it was very evocative.

Not everyone agrees, and some music snobs did pan it. However, I think that it is predictable for this to happen with certain types of musical aficionados.  Especially, since they are likely able to pick out nuances they specifically will site with surgical precision as the reason the rest of the composition does not work.  I tend not to be so obsessive compulsive about these things myself.

I just re-watched the bottom clip.
Between 1:13 and 1:17, toothless with an uninjured tail.

I see what you mean.  To me it looks more like bad coloring, but the geometry is consistent with the prosthetic.

It wasn't the prosthetic. Think about it.

Even if it was, Hiccup wasn't riding toothless.
The prosthetic doesn't work without him.
