You should try the Omnisphere software. The sounds in that are amazing. Lets not talk but watch, listen, GAS

GAS indeed  ;D

Yeah Omnisphere is on the short list to get next.

Must... Get... Proper... Studio... Monitors... First...   ;D

Eana Tanhì

Violin (duh), Harpsichord, Electric Guitar, Pipe Organ, Hurdy-Gurdy, Hammered Dulcimer, and Carillon. ;D
I'd expect you to like the bagpipes too :P
Oh, I forgot those! I love bagpipes! ::)  *goes to edit*

Bagpipes are the best! I used to play them, until I realized I was really, really bad.  ;D

For instruments that I have ready access to I would have to say I'm loving my software synths (Massive, FM8, Absynth) and orchestral sample libraries (VSL, LASS, and Kontakt). Between those two I have a universe of sounds at my fingertips ready to be explored with a midi keyboard and DAW.  ;D

Which DAW are you using?

FL Studio 9, but I am thinking of switching over to Reaper (or Logic if I get a mac).

Quite a load :P

Have you ever considered going a little more minimalist by any chance?

Hehe, I find myself trying to make more and more elaborate orchestral pieces similar to what you hear in a movie trailer and some of my recent sketchs were layered with as many as 20 sample instruments.  :o

I generally have separate templates for Synths for trance/tech/prog stuff, and a basic orchestral template running via Kontakt (about 10-16 sample instruments loaded to start)  :P

So far on a modest setup (AMD Phenom X4 3Ghz, 8Gb Ram, 2x 1 Tb HDs) it all runs like a champ with no or few freezes or clipping.

Again I make music for fun, so I am a pro-hobbyist? Like I said before I already have a universe of sound to work with. No more GAS for me. Then again Symphobia and True Strike sound sooo good... ;D

Change my fav instrument to a 11 string (electrical) guitar. :-)

Pure white would be disturbing. :)

An awesome voice. ;D ;D

You can never beat an awesome voice. Wish I had one :( My piano will have to be my musical voice.

Yeah. If you're an above average singer, I wouldn't exactly recommend using one; it didn't really sound all that great in my case. Haha, but if you want to, go for it. ;D ;D

Just jump on the bandwagon and use Auto Tune like 80% of singers these days.

I've got Pro Tools 8 SE. It's just so I can lay down guitar tracks as I come up with ideas. I'll be upgrading to Pro Tools 9. When I do I'll be getting Omnisphere cause 8 SE doesn't allow plug ins and it only has 16 tracks.

sorry for the necropost
According my brother who did a degree in recording sound the best one that he has used is by far logic. Pro tools was okay but makes things far more complex than necessary whereas logic is as good if not better and much more user friendly.
Only mostly AWOL.

Alas Logic is Mac only, but I shall agree with you that Logic is a dream to use, excepting for minor quibbles.

I play trumpet very fluently and guitar like a landslide.
