What is it?  Can be anything if it has a connection to music.  Lyric, quote about a song, quote from interview, or just a famous quote by a famous musician.

I will start off with one a lot of people don't know.

"So, is that your breakfast?" - Flea upon Chad Smith's arrival to the RHCP audition (Smith had a reputation for "eating drums for breakfast")

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace." - Jimi Hendrix

"All those gold, platinum.., none of that matters.  You know you've made it when someone makes a skateboard out of you." - Joe "Mr." Hahn.

"... The only people that are going to have a chance to make a living playing music is the people who do exactly what they believe in ... they have to believe in this so much that they are ready to die for it." - Jojo Mayer

and my favorite Lyrics:

Not in peace and not in war
I believe in nothing
but the truth of who we are."

On that note, some lyrics on the flip side of things:

"I'm not a bird.  I'm not a plane. I'm a bird-plane!  I'm a bird-plane, mother-****ing bird plane!" - Axis of Awesome.

"'Play the best song in the world, or I'll eat your souls.'  Well me and Kyle, we looked at each other and we each said, 'Okay." - Tenacious D.

"No one's gonna take me alive.  The time has come to make things right.  You and I must fight for our rights.  You and I must fight to survive!" - Muse

"Hold your own.  Know your name and go your own way, and everything, everything will be fine." - Jason Mraz

"Zoot Suit Riot!  Throw back a bottle of beer!  Zoot Suit Riot. Run a Comb through your coal black hair!" - Cherry Poppin' Daddies (Piece of history written in this song, and the meaning in the end is actually quite humorous and ironic).

"... The only people that are going to have a chance to make a living playing music is the people who do exactly what they believe in ... they have to believe in this so much that they are ready to die for it." - Jojo Mayer

I won't play the Muse card.  Not too much into them.

"So you sing a lullaby to the lonely hearts tonight. Let it set Your heart on fire. Let it set you free. When you're fighting to believe in a love that you can't see just know there is a purpose for those who wait!" - For Those Who Wait, Fireflight

"Right now you're bruised and bleeding.  I see the hurt within your eyes.  I know your pain is for a reason.  You need to feel just to know that you're alive!" - To Know That You're Alive - Kutless

"Have you forgotten me for flowers in your hair? Still I run my hands over your dress." - Goddess of The Dayspring, Am I - Falling Up

"The first time that you opened your eyes did you realize that you would be my Savior and the first breath that left your lips did you know that iit would change this world forever?" - I Celebrate the Day - Relient K

"You cried wolf.  The tears they soaked your fur. The blood dripped from your fangs. You said 'What have I done?' You loved that lamb with every sinful bone, and there you wept alone.  You heart was so contrite. You said, 'Jesus please forgive me of my crimes.  Sanctify this withered heart of mine.  Stay with me until my life is through, and on that day, please take me home with you." - Deathbed - Relient K

For the last two, I love these songs mainly for their musicality: very well done.  And yes, these are all Christian bands.  No, I am not being evangelical here: I just like these lyrics and music.

I'll go with the 10th muse, Sappho (fragment 16):

οἰ μὲν ἰππήων στρότον, οἰ δὲ πέζδων,
οἰ δὲ νάων φαῖσ' ἐπι γᾶν μέλαιναν
ἔμμεναι κάλλιστον· ἔγω δὲ κῆν' ὄττω τις ἔραται.

For those of you who don't know Aeolic Greek (and why don't you?!), I'll translate:

Some say a field of cavalry — others infantry
and others ships — is the most beautiful thing on
the dark earth; but I say it's that which you love.

Greek lets you do crazy things with word order that English cannot manage.  Trust me when I say the Greek flows better than my translation.

Yeah, listened to some ... I prefer what I call nuMetal but I'd love someone (someone who could take that into account and not simply be elitist) to give me ideas where to go, what to listen to in the original metal stuff coz I haven't got a real clue where to start. Real metal-heads seem to hate nuMetal ... ah well.

Well, I'm a rocker, but also hate nuMetal... It's a cheap mixture of HipHop and Metal. And.. such bands like Linkin Park are like hell for me.

If you want to listen to classic metal stuff, I'd not recommend to listen to music produced afer 1972. Black Sabbath is the only band I really know, but I'd be glad if someone can teach me. ;)

I listen to at least 4 different genres of metal:
Punk Metal: Rise Against, Rage Against the Machine (though those guys rap, use synth, you name it)
Symphonic/Folk Metal: Within Temptation, Nightwish, Dream Theatre, Sonata Arctura
Thrash: Metallica (early work), Slayer, Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium
Metalcore: Story of the Year, Escape the Fate, Blessthefall, Scary Kids Scaring Kids
or the more melodic variety: Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, 5 Finger Death Punch, All that Remains, Ateryu, In Flames and Bullet for my Valentine

(these guys will use clean vocals instead of just screaming, though copious amounts of screaming is involved  :D)

If you guys are some of the people that don't like gutteral yells and screams, I'm the wrong person to be talking to. I'm open to all forms of Metal and am open to every taste (Numetal, classic, Death, thrash, melodic, gothic, punk, you name it)

I've had my two pence worth, feel free to retaliate by bombarding me with names of YOUR favorite bands

'Cos I WILL look them up. Promise  8)

oh, and to stay on topic:
"You imitate the ostracized, put your head beneath the sand
Your cup it runneth over, must be rough to live so grand
You reap what you sew, you pay what you owe unless you bathe yourself in greed
You rob and you take, your world is fake
There's no honor amongst the thieves"

Will you not flee label me parriah?
Where will you be my darling?
Where will you be when they light my Pyre?

*skips bit*

Trained amidst the thick of fire
A flame a Valkyrie
She claimed the sky was lit with spyres
And in his eye she were a godess
And even when she caught
Her breath her words would leave a scar
For only in the grip of darkness, will we shine amidst the brightest stars"

Band and song might be easy but can any one guess what the song is about?

Thanks for the various opinions :)

I like most kinds of music but, on the subject of metal & rock, I very much like the more composite sound of what I refer to as nuMetal (Linkin Park are one of my favourites, LOL) . I've no specific objection to "real" metal but I can't claim to be a fan of long guitar solos (and I pretty much hate most drum solos) and, I am (or was) told, such solos are a requirement to be classified as metal.

As for screamo stuff ... yeah I like some of it but not really when a song is all screamo, just can't see the point I guess. I also like some punk (though I tend to think of it as "nuPunk" coz it's quite different from the late 70's punk I grew up with). My current favourite band is probably Three Days Grace (haven't heard a bad track from them yet) and other favourites are Drowning Pool (lead singer deceased), Godsmack, Spineshank, Bullet For My Valentine, Atreyu, Cold, Filter, Evanescence (though I admit Amy Lee irritates me a bit), KoRn, Foo Fighters, Disturbed, Hoobastank, Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Dimmu Borgir, Rise Against, Trivium. Other stuff I like too including loads of 70's/80's funk/jazzfunk, Dandy Warhols, Steel Pulse, Skunk Anansie and so on.

To keep on track, since we all like Linkin Park so much (LOL), here's some lyrics I like:

Wake in a sweat again, another day's been laid to waste, in my disgrace
Stuck in my head again, feels like I'll never leave this place, there's no escape
I'm my own worst enemy

I've given up, I'm sick of feeling ... is there nothing you can say?
Take this all away, I'm suffocating ... tell me what the f*** is wrong with me?
