Hello everyone.

I thought I would lay some ground rules so we can all be on the same page when discussing Na'vi culture and the world around them.

1. This is a place for intellectual discussion.

I know most of us here aren't studying anthropology, so I do not expect academic terminology, but I do expect maturity. We can joke and have fun and certainly go off topic from time to time, but I always expect us to get back to the point eventually. Above all, when we are on topic I expect posts to be well thought out. Don't throw random thoughts out there with out having thought them through a bit. Don't post some one lined "I agree" posts, expand the conversation. If you don't have anything to add, don't post.

This also means you should try to use proper grammar. I know that English is not everyone's first language here, but I'm sure every one knows when to use capitols and have at least decent spelling. It's hard to take posts seriously when someone is using "internet speak."

2. Your opinions are just that; opinions.

Right now we have a rudimentary understanding of the Na'vi culture at best. We can speculate all we want, but as of right now it's all we can do. So please respect other people's ideas because they have just as high of a chance of being right as you do.

3. Please read through a thread before posting.

I know some of them are getting long, but chances are your point has already been made. Once you've read through you can join the discussion on hand and add to it with out to much repeating.

This rule also applies to starting new threads. Please read through the titles of all other threads before making a new one. I don't expect you to read through every post on every thread, but try to avoid repeating posts.

4. The Activists Survival Guide is your friend.

Right now, other than the movie, our best insight into Na'vi culture is the Activists Survival Guide (ASG). It's designed to be a "first report" on Pandora, so it's rather short and is really only a taste of what we want, but it's certainly better than nothing. I definitely suggest picking it if you want to take your knowledge to the next step.

5.Have fun.

Yup, it's not all seriousness over here as any of our regulars will tell you. We get into some silly discussions and those are fine. Enjoy yourself and fall in love with the culture! Enjoy yourselves.

That's it for now, I'm sure I've forgotten something so I'll leave the thread open for now if you have something you want to add!

Okay new rule!

6. All cultures are equal to each other.

No single culture is "better" than another. We will not raise one as a Utopia and flatten another. All cultures have pros, all have cons. We can compare and contrast them, but let's try to be realistic.

7. Necroposting is just fine when done right.

Now there has been a lot of confusion about necroposting and this forum going around. I'd like to point out that the rule about not posting on a thread that hasn't been replied to in the past ten days only applies to the introduction board.

If you have read through an old thread and honestly feel like you have something new to add and want to pick the conversation back up please feel free to do so. this board thrives on your guys' conversations and new ideas. I would much rather have long in depth threads that die for a while and then come back then a cluttered board filled with short threads that ask similar questions.

Hope that clears things up!

...well, it's been two more posts, a few months, and no change.  Think maybe our mods have found all the working rules for this forum?
