A point to you Tìng! Let's hope they don't think of that, then there goes our free advertisement!  :D

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

Well they've been doing it for years with out realizing it! Do you think that the Dan Brown stuff would have gotten as popular as it did with out them hating it?

Back onto topic! What other religious similarities do you see? Or scientific ones for that matter?

I'm not a religious person, but science has proven us to be connected on a much deeper level then we once thought.

For a religious similarity, I would say it's kind of similar to the Native Americans in some aspects, like the land provides them food or energy and then give that back.

As for science I know there several I could come up with, but I have to look into a little more.

In a way they have something's in common with Native americans but other similarities are noticeable but i haven't put my finger on it yet.

I think Cameron was thinking about the Natives a lot when he was making the Na'vi as he's openly stated that he wanted to do the story of their invasion.

Still their religion is very different then the Natives. They haven't anthropomorphized their god and are pretty monotheistic. There are signs of ancestor worship, though worship probably isn't the right word. Just high respect more so.

He really couldn't make the Na'vi just like the native americans. He mostly took certain aspects from different cultures and mod them into the Na'vi culture, but also some aspects and made them more.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

Exactly, he made a culture that was very unique and could stand on it's own. At least, I hope it will. It still hasn't been fleshed out enough to see if it's fully developed. Cameron needs to hire a team of anthropologists *hinthint*

He probably will now since he has a little time to actually expand and work more on the Na'vi culture. I wouldn't be surprised if he is talking or emailing some anthropologists. I really don't know.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

He really needs to. I'm sure he's convinced a few doctors buy now. Now all he needs is an enthusiastic student to help keep things fresh. *cough cough*

Sure he does! *sarcasm there* ;) And what makes you think he will choose you?

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

Because I've flooded this board the most?

I'm not sure about asking directly, but if I were Cameron I'd totally be lurking on sites like this.  We're not just fans who are overly excited and eating up what he hands us.  We're applying critical thinking to what we've been given about the Na'vi and are extrapolating, speculating, and coming to conclusions.  It's no replacement for a group of anthropologists, but it's still fairly useful.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

Yes. We've been giving every aspect a ton of thought, we're not going to accept anything handed to us. It must have a lot of thought behind it. We're certainly not as good as fully trained anthropologists, as I've only just started my training, but having a few well educated fans on the team may help keep it's true source. Also an older anthropologist may be stuck in his box somewhat. For an alien culture you need someone with a fresh mind. Having a mixed team would assure that it stays realistic and deep while still new and alien.

Is that a statement or a question?  :D

Make me! :P

That's ngay about your last post. It's good to have a fresh mix of ideas that could be backed by the older more refined poeple. It the same with architecture.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

A bit of both  ;D

So yeah, Cameron, if you are a lurker, I think you have some willing people here!

Lots of willing people!

Have you found anymore similarities between the Na'vi culture and Earth's cultures?

Swok Txon

yeah!

Tell us Mr. Cameron Tell Us!

LOL

I must say it is surprising how in depth we get, but i enjoy these theoretical and hypothetical debates :-)

I wonder if there are different religions on Pandora...maybe there it a different kind of Tree of Souls somewhere else?

Eywal ngaru teing oeti

Yes. I really do enjoy these talks.

I believe there is only one Tree of Souls on Pandora. There is a thread in the customs and culture section that talk about the Tree of Souls, if you want to look into it.
