I was asking my self, na'vi grow and hiss... about meowing communication ...

Lolet

I can see the Na'vi hissing, purring, roaring, and making other weird noises.

Given the word prrte' and its meaning, I think it's almost certain that the na'vi purr.

As for meowing, hissing and growling, I don't know.

Maybe more like a yowl? You know, "owwwghh...". That's what my cat does when her sister is being a poop.

the na'vi have their own version of a hiss and a purr.  i can see them with their own version of a meow.

I can see (actually 'hear' ;) ) them do a local meow version. I mean, Neytiri's call for Seze is not exactly speech either. They are probably quite good at making animal sounds, as they are so close to nature.

The Na'vian organs for making sounds are much more highly developed.. :)

I was watching AVATAR today (surprisingly), and was wondering about the voices of Jake, Grace and Norm. They have the same voice either in their real bodies or in their avatars. Why? When they are in their avatars their body structure changes, also the vocal cords and the glottis and other organs used for making voice. (At least the size changes, does't it?) So why don't their voices change?

Because then people watching the film would be horribly confused ;)

Convenience, mainly, and so the audience doesn't get horribly confused at the start of the movie.

I imagine it falls under "human DNA mixed with the DNA of the natives." That's a sci-fi statement that basically allows the avatars to do anything either species can do :P

I reckon whenever they tsahely si with any tree/plant/whatever, a "synchronisation" of thoughts/memories/etc. is performed. That is probably the most believable way in which this could happen, IMHO. Of course, this implies a few things:

* The voices you hear are only as recent as the latest backup - notice you don't hear anybody dying in the film when linked up to the tree ;).
* People can be heard in the tree of voices even before they are dead even. I don't see why not - but if this doesn't happen, a simple explanation would be that Eywa only allows others to access the thoughts/memories after a certain amount of time has passed since the last sync.
* People must tsahely si with trees quite a lot - again, this is implied in the film a little, and is very plausible. Perhaps even the hammocks act as a "link station"? I'm pretty sure that it's not only the tree of voices/souls-style trees that allow tsaheylu...
