Everyone can find some interesting things in the movie. Scientists, philosophers, ...

I have seen the film seven times in nine days ;) 31st of december, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th of january :D

The scene, where Jake talks about the love to nature, that Neytiri wants to teach him, is one of my favorite ones. I'm totally obsessed by this film .. The wonderful idea, that everything could be totally different, ...  ::)

@ Eywal ngaru teing oeti: Yes, i really had to laugh out loudly, when he said that :D ... You're right, but I think, the reality was different from what we hear about the past.

Well through out history one group meeting another often ends in hostility. Of course in the movie we have the added complex issue of us dealing with non-humans. How do we decide to apply our rights to them? I of course think they have the same rights, but Parker certainly didn't.

But: Do they have the same rights as we have? Or do we have the same rights as them?

I think, in such a situation, every tribe's worth is equal. Then the different cultures have to learn from each other. That's the only way of living in peace .... my opinion :)

Meeting an alien race, there would be some people in our society think that we more in the right and that our way is the right way.

Yes, I believe that you right Uniltìyìranyu. That we should be equal and learn from each other, because each tribe or group has strengths in areas that we would have problems. Does that make sense?

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

I'd like to think that's what everyone would think. But we know that there will always be someone who likes to think they're superior because they have the shiny tools.

True.
It's kind of like when North Korea was able to make a nuclear weapon, and they thought they were now a superpower, thinking that they could take on anyone. I don't mean any disrespect or anything. Just an observation.

Elektrolurch

Right ...

And sometimes I think, the representatives of our culture are not really ready or able to see our mistakes, and the advantages of the other tribe ..

I think, the nuclear weapon is necessary for peace in the world of 2010.

I would have to agree. That's politics for you. It probably is necessary for peace, but I personally think that we would need to decommission all nuclear weapons. The reason for that is because we really don't someone who is trigger happy and destroy everyone/everything.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

Nuclear weapons are a scary thing that have no place in the world, but once again we're getting off topic. How does nuclear weapons apply to the Na'vi.

Genocide threats are possibilities for the second movie. Thoughts?

I wanted to say, if a few states have the weapon, none of them will risk firing them ;)

Well, I'm also very interested in the second movie... and genocides might be possible ;D But when i think about it, i wouldn't know anything else, they could use ...

By the way: have you read 1984?

It's obvious that the humans are going to come back in much greater numbers than before. If that is the case I don't think the Na'vi will be able to fight them off.

Not yet, it's on my to do list.

Elektrolurch

Very right.

Do it as soon as possible, you'll like it ...

(The worst thing i ever thought about would be Neytiri jailed in the "Ministry Of Love" *sickness* :o )

Eywal ngaru teing oeti

Ngay.

Yeah, a little off topic. The humans could bring nuclear weapons as a backup plan, but they will definitely be coming back.

I might look into the book as well. Sounds interesting.

Nìwotxkrr Tìyawn

I don't think the humans would risk radiating the unobtainium or any area that they would want to mine.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

Yeah, nuclear war would ruin the resources they are fighting so hard for.
Oeri lu Eywayä 'eveng

Eywal ngaru teing oeti

That it would. With how far they in the future, it could be a possibility that they found a way to not have radiation or they some kind of new bomb that is at least or more powerful than a nuclear bomb. It would also depends on where the Na'vi and where the Unobtainium is located at. Just several thoughts.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

True, there is no doubt that humans will have come up with some more efficient forms of mass murder by then.

hehehe, humanities a real b****. I remember back in the day when me, will smith, and that one guy that was the main character in the 2nd Jurassic Park, we had to use this alien space ship and we flew to the mothership and stuff and we sent them a trojan virus that was labeled "porn" so they would open it for sure, then we nuked em and it was all BOOOOM CRASH BOOOOOOM!

Yes. We are a volatile civilization. Violence has been part our life's since we first came to be. We are also coming with tools that could and would kills hundreds, thousands, millions of people. Not a good way go.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

Be careful when you say "we're" a violent civilization. I know I'm part of one, one of the biggest in fact, but not all humans are like that. As hard as it seems to believe sometimes we are not hardwired for violence.
