Toruk Makto is king of the Ikran riders

Niwantaw

(apart from bro. That was just fantasticly OTT)
Only mostly AWOL.

Human No More

My (IRL) friends usually find it funny whenever I speak Na'vi.
(Although when I do speak it to them, alcohol is usually involved on both sides...)
"I can barely remember my old life. I don't know who I am any more."

HNM, not 'Human' :)

I can't speak Na'vi when I drank some alcohol, lol
they usually say things like study for school instead of such things,
or,
get a life,
but I don't mind that,
if they say those things, I just say calm and think,
"tawtuteyä lu skxawng,
you're the ones who should get a life, instead of thinking your everything, at least I act as I am, not who I want to be."

That's a good solution but ultimately, just ignore them. One of the reasons, I bet, this community was made online the first time was to gather all Na'vi Fans together in one group, as one community. In a way we're all part of one big family. So don't feel down.

My mom: Sure, if you want to. have fun.
I mean, seriously? The way she said was basically like "I don't care, do what you want." Even surprise or shock or scorn would have been better than indifference.

The first time I called the person who sits behind me in science class a skxawng, I got stared at by like 10 others. Now I'm just ignored.

Also, I've had people ask in study hall what I was studying when they looked at my binder (usually have the nutshell guide open). When I reply "Na'vi", they just get a confused look on their face that's almost priceless.

Come to think of it, that kid in science never did figure out what skxawng meant...

haha. That too happened to me  ;) but as time went on, even a friend of mine got interested. XD He kept trying to pronounce Kaltxì after he saw me write in Na'vi once but it sounded more like kläti. :D

Anyhow In time things should get better. Bullies have the tendecy to pick on a person who doesn't conform witht he rest of the community for some time. Things should calm down in a few weeks.

it was funny, there's a website that I go to that's a Flash game website (which is called Kongregate, really good site), but there's a chat room in it on the side. I was playing a game with my friend sitting and watching when one of my friends from here (who I converted to Kongregate) popped on and started conversing with me in Na'vi. my friend noticed this sudden strange language and proceeded to watch me complete a full conversation in Na'vi. all the while with a puzzled expression on his face. after I got done talking with my Na'vi friend, he says, "heh, I didn't know you knew Zulu?" I couldn't stop laughing for about three minutes. when I told him it was Na'vi, he gave me this blank stare then says, "yeah....." I could see the gears and stuff clicking and clanking in his head then his face kinda twiched and he says "wait... Avatar?" when I nodded he goes, "*Cough* get a life *cough*" then I proceeded to go off about his obsession with knowing everything there is to know about Final Fantasy. so we're even.

there, that was probably the most interesting thing I've gotten from telling someone about Na'vi. but yeah, most people give a blank stare. from my mom I got, "that's nice dear." people just don't understand us...  :(

anyway, Eywa ngahu!

I'm almost afraid to tell my friend that I'm learning Na'vi, because she hates Avatar with a passion. I had my iPod out recently, and she asked to look at it. My wallpaper is currently an Avatar poster, and she's like, "Avatar? Ew." I also have a bunch of avatar pictures on there too. That's kind of a fun reaction, just because I can tease her with Avatar stuff. But mostly I get, "Huh?" or "have fun, I really don't care," reactions when I tell someone.  No one really understands why I would want to know a conlang.

Swoka Ikran

I have 3 friends who absolutely refuse to see Avatar. One of them gets annoyed if I even bring it up anymore, having practically lectured her to death on it.

What's also kind of funny is one of those friends is in the environment club at school, and another is in a foreign culture club...

Don't do that. That will give people bad impressions about our community.
