Do the Na'vi (first) names that made it into the movie have actually any meaning?

None that are known. Cameron made them up, they were part of the 30 some words he gave to Frommer to base the language off of. I don't think Frommer has told us what their root meanings are.

It's kind of like how one feels when they don't know anything about a particular artifact. Until more info comes out we really can't do a damn thing about what s*** means.

Duma Vadamee {Aungia Tsawkeyä}

does anyone have an idea wat Duma 'Vadamee means? (my name). Duma means "doom" and 'Vadamee means, i think, "light of Sanghelios" or "helios." does anyone have any suggestions?

The Na'vi structure seems to be as follows:

Male:
(name) te (family) (father's name)+'itan
Example: Tsu'tey te Rongloa Atey'itan

Female:
(name) te (family) (mother's name)+'ite
Example: Neytiri te Tskaha Mo'at'ite

So the son has the father's name + son while the daughter has the mot
her's name + daughter

My name is Chloe, meaning 'blooming green leaf', or mip'wll (new plant.) My mum's name is Katherine, meaning 'pure' or ngay (true). I don't want to write my surname but it means 'good leader' (sìltsan'eyktan).

So therefore my Na'Vi name would be mip'wll te sìltsan'eyktan ngay'itan.

Is this correct? I spent quite a while figuring this out :-*

well, I looked for 'doom' in the English-Na'Vi dictionary - it wasn't there - but a synonym for 'doom', 'bad' was there. 'helios' wasn't there either, so I substituted it for 'sky' - which is roughly the same meaning - and that's 'taw'.

However, to get your whole name you'd need to get a translation for your mother or father's name :) and use the information in Tsu'roen's first post to help you :D good luck!

Doom - the Anglo-Saxon word meaning "judgment", "law"

doom  /dum/  Show Spelled Pronunciation
–noun 1. fate or destiny, esp. adverse fate; unavoidable ill fortune: In exile and poverty, he met his doom.
2. ruin; death: to fall to one's doom.
3. a judgment, decision, or sentence, esp. an unfavorable one: The judge pronounced the defendant's doom.
4. the Last Judgment, at the end of the world.
5. Obsolete. a statute, enactment, or legal judgment.

–verb (used with object) 6. to destine, esp. to an adverse fate.
7. to pronounce judgment against; condemn.
8. to ordain or fix as a sentence or fate.

There is not a single word to mean this, so I try to aproximate like this...

Doom ~ t<ìyev>erk<äng>up-yu aungia-yä { 1. / 2. }

Doom ~ Sk<ìyev>a'<äng>a-yu Eywa'eveng-yä { 4. }

Doom ~ ft(x)<ìyev>ey<äng>-u aungia-yä { 3. / 6. / 8. }

aungia is omen, but not an omen of final judgement, which is more of what Doom somewhat means, but up to you.

penghrrap for sunshine from two stars || tsawke for Sun, so you could say mesawke for both suns, there are two stars in the Alpha centauri system, and they don't currently have individual Na'vi Names.

I have seen "te" translated as "of the". I'm not sure if that's official but it makes some sense.

The 2007 script contains the following full names:
Neytiri te Ckaha Mo'at'ite
Tsu'tey te Rongloa Ateyitan

The Scriptment (Project 880) has the following full names:
Zuleika te Kaha Polenoma (Neytiri)
Mato'a te Kaha Nahgoitewa (Eytukan)
Mo'at Pohatsua (Mo'at)
Tsu te Rongloa (Tsu'tey)

Do you have a link to where I could download the Project 880 Scriptment?
I have already read the Avatar screenplay, and I really want to read P-880
