Well I can't say for sure since we don't know how different the tribes are. The fact that they need a giant impressive dragon to unite them against a large force suggests that they may have some extreme differences.

At one point, Jake says "I've got 15 clans out there." So we know there are at least 15 clans. However, we only see him going to the horse people on the plains and the ikran riders of the eastern sea. So what i'm trying to figure out is were all the clans that came to help just from those two regions of pandora?

Perhaps there is more than one tribe in the plains, in the movie you can easily see other big trees in the distance. Same thing goes for the eastern sea area.
Personally i don`t take the Na`vi as alien because i think i understand them.

When I look on the news and see what horrible things are happening around the world I can`t help but wonder what is the source of them and therefore my own race is becoming more and more alien to me as time passes by.

Does that make any sense?

On that same line there's probably more than one forest tribe as well near the Omaticaya. I would love to see how they might interact ;)
Avatar is a movie about a guy with blue balls running through the forest chasing tail.

It would be hilarious if JC himself visited the fourm (without us knowing) and used our ideas for extra clans.

If we see a 'Dreamwalker' clan in the next Avatar, I will laugh. If it's home base is the same as what I have set in mind, I will do a victory armpump for awesome.
Damn that would be AWESOME.... but i would also like if he said in some Behind the scenes " you know i visited some web pages and got a few ideas"... then i would strike a wider victory armpump! 8)

It would be epic if our ideas were worked into the movies somehow. who's to say that JC doesn't lurk the fan communities? Peter Jackson used to lurk some of the more prominent Lord the Rings fan communities. He never posted, but he did mention "visiting various fan communities here and there to get a feel for the fans reactions to the movies."
See that shadow? It's the last one you're gonna see.

Yes there must be multiple tribes in an area the forest is a very big place. They were able to reach 15 clans in only a few days. Even with Ikran and everyone going in opposite directions they could have gotten far in such a short amount of time.

Swok Txon

Well, with over 15 clans they had around 2000 warriors which really isn't that much, so they are not a large race probably for several evolutionary and social factors.

But if they found over 15 in a matter of days (and as Quaritch says they could get to 20,000) i wonder how many of them in total there would be on Pandora....

And that's just warriors lol imagine the entire populace

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

Well since warriors don't seem to be a full time gig 2,000 warriors could really mean 2,000 able-bodied adults, which would make the tribes even smaller. Which would make sense if they are all around the same size as the Omatikaya people. That would mean you could have a lot of different but small tribes with in a reasonably close distance from each other.

Well, consider the amount of time that it took for to gather that amount. I would say they didn't even reach the other side of Pandora, and we can assume that there would be more.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

Other side of Pandora? Heck I bet they didn't even make it off the continent! Though, we have no idea how much of Pandora the Na'vi have populated other parts of the world. We don't know if Pandora has gone through Ice Ages like us which would allow them to cross the oceans on foot, or if Ikran have the ability to fly over oceans which I highly doubt.

Eywal ngaru teing oeti

Well they could've built boats, but there might be a reason if they didn't build boats or they just don't know.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

Boats are a possibility and actually one anthropologists are debating now as they believe some European people may have come to America that way in prehistoric times. Still this is very debatable, and even if it was true you would need two continents close enough to each other that you could make most of the trip traveling by the coast. At least they would if their technology was similar to the Omatikaya people who wouldn't be able to build a sea faring ship.

Eywal ngaru teing oeti

From what I saw of Pandora at the beginning of the movie. I didn't see any polar ice caps and that there might have been land near the top of Pandora that looked like it could be connected to the two continents or close to them.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

Well a still pictured showed the possibility of ice caps. They're under the clouds but there is clearly something different underneath them that could be ice.
Oeri lu Eywayä 'eveng

Eywal ngaru teing oeti

There could be. Most likely.

About the ice ages. There could have been, like when the moon goes into the planet's shadow. That could make the moon turn cold and have an ice age. That's a theory anyway.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

Very true, but then it would happen a lot more often then ours do and that's a pretty lush forest that's had to have been around for a while. I wonder how the whole going behind the planet thing actually works. I know it means they have long periods of dark, hence why everything has bioluminescence but what does it do to the temperature? The Na'vi's general lack of clothing or shelter suggests that it is tropical the majority of the time.
Oeri lu Eywayä 'eveng

Eywal ngaru teing oeti

It might not have covered the forests since they would still give off warmth, but it could that only the oceans and water freeze and then melt when the moon came out from the shadow.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

True true. Curses, this is another one of those things we'll either have to wait for the other movies or a more detailed book. Does it talk about it in the survival guide? I'm about to give up on the local bookstore and just get it from amazon...
Oeri lu Eywayä 'eveng

Eywal ngaru teing oeti

There isn't any information about that in there. Although it is possible and that there would be some rivers free of ice cause the water is warmer than others. The land is also a lot warmer due to volcanic activity. It also says that the continents are smaller and more than Earth and that the continents move a whole lot faster. So, it is possible for tribes to get the other side.

I'd say by the time you order it and receive it through the mail, then you might as well wait and get it at the bookstore this weekend.

Tìng Eywatikìte'e

I work all weekend >.> I maaay have time Monday.

Climate is one of those very complicated things, but the times of dark couldn't be that long, because no matter how many warm rivers and volcanoes a planet has the lack of direct sunlight for a long time would lead to freezing temperatures.
Oeri lu Eywayä 'eveng

Eywal ngaru teing oeti

Yes. There is still some light that bounces off the other moons around the planet. The forest is also bioluminescent.
