Who are you?

Tell us about yourself! Where are you coming from, what languages do you speak, what do you do, how old are you, tell us a few words about your family, work etc. This is the job interview part.

My real name is Heather and I'm 16 (nearing 17) (sort of), I live in Massachusetts but hopefully leaving soon. I come from the West coast, mainly California, but my dad's job makes it that my family moves around a lot. Let's just say moving to Massachusetts wasn't supported by me at all. I'm also homeschooled (since 5th grade) which makes moving a whole lot easier. I'm hoping next I'll live in Oregon or California. Maybe Colorado. I have two cats (Boo and Snuffy; yeah, the names are a bit... XD)

Although, K won't be with me much longer, she doesn't have the right temperament to be a service dog (much too sensitive) so she'll be adopted into a pet home. I'm hoping her new owner will have her be a Therapy Dog as she's super friendly and would be great doing work like that.

Why are you here?

What brought you here to the Learn Na'vi forum in the first place? Did you fall in love with the language? With Pandora? With a character? Did someone invite you? Or did you stumble upon this site? Once here, why did you decide to stay? How much time do you spend here every day?

I bought the ASG after becoming obsessed with Avatar and devoted my time to memorizing the Na'vi words in the back. As the ASG doesn't have a key to pronounce the words....I seriously butchered the pronunciation. How would I know 'kx' wasn't pronounced "kcks"? XD Thankfully I wanted more on the language and one day searched on Google, lo and behold there was LearnNavi, endorsed by Paul Frommer and all. From that I was able to find the pronunciation, basic grammar etc. I knew of the forum and briefly checked it out, but I wasn't too keen on forums back then so it took me a month or two to join. That was about a year ago and now I'm totally addicted to LN... There are such awesome people here and I'm truthfully very surprised at how active it still is considering the movie hype has died down.

Where do your alias and profile pic come from?

Do they have a special significance? Is you alias a translation of your real name, or just a bunch of random letters thrown together? Is that you on your profile pic?

I made up my forum name a couple days before I joined, and it's really just random. I didn't want a translated name or anything because as far as we know "Neytiri" and "Tsu'tey" don't mean anything, and I wanted a Na'vi name like those. My profile pic comes from the picture of Jake and Neytiri before the battle with writing in the Eoio font. The picture was split into two parts, the part of Neytiri is mine, the part of Jake is Kxeyo's.

How well? Why did you start to learn it? What is your ultimate goal with the language? Do you have specific methods/tools you use in learning the language? How did your friends, family, or colleagues react to your interest in learning Na'vi? Have you told them at all? Have you converted any of them?

My family has reacted quite well to me speaking Na'vi, my sister sometimes expresses interest in learning it and knows a few words. My mom and friends even know to say "Na'vi" with the glottal stop when I'm around.

What's you favorite Na'vi word? Did you incorporate it (or others) into your everyday vocab?

For some reason I really like the adposition teri and the word fte. I don't really ever use them when I'm speaking, but I use them a lot when I'm thinking. The only words I actively use are when I talk to my dog, that's the only time I practice speaking the language.

In your opinion, what are the top three user-created content on the LN website?

Anything from the main site, the wiki, or the forum including language docs, threads, quotes, literary works, images, etc.

Taronyu's dictionary, undoubtedly. I always have it open on my computer and it's invaluable for words and remembering which verbs are transitive and not.
Na'vi in a Nutshell by NeoTrekkerZ is wonderfully put together and easy to read.
I also really like the font Eoio by Prrton, I think it's beautifully done.

Have you made any contributions to the LN community that you're particularly proud of?

What made you make those? Do you plan on contributing (again) in the future? How?

Nothing, really. Besides being here almost constantly. XD

What is it that you liked/hated the most about Avatar ?

How many times have you seen it? How big of an Avatard are you? Prove it!

There's not much for me to hate about Avatar; there are minor scenes that bother me but other than that...a pretty flawless movie, one that really moved me. It's hard to believe it's actually been over a year since it came out. I think what I liked most about Avatar was how perfect the Na'vi's world is (was, until the aliens came). They were completely one with nature and that's something I've always found very attractive, us living in a world today that's so different from that. The whole movie reminded me so much of what's happening on Earth.

Has Avatar changed your life in any way?

Are you trying to become a Na'vi? How and to what extent? Do you live on a tree? Do you wear your hair in a long braid? Or are you just simply blue? Do you bond with animals? Is Gaia on your contact list? Did you have your photo 'shopped?

I think Avatar has definitely changed the way I think, although I'm less affected by it now than when I first saw it. I haven't done anything to make myself more like a Na'vi, a queue would be awesome but I like to keep my hair shorter than that. XD I did a few photoshops of myself...although that was a little while ago.

Frommer: How do you make sure the language's rules are so consistent? Are you worried about messing up?
Cameron: How different did Avatar look to you when released than how you imagined when you first wrote it?
Cameron: Did Avatar have the effect on people you wanted it to?

What else do you do in your free time?

I'm somewhat of a dog trainer, for the past few years I've raised service dog puppies for NEADS. Dogs are a huge love of mine, and while my parents won't let me have a dog yet I can still train service dogs. My last pup Ellie went as a Social Dog to a boy with autism--she'll help him adjust in social situations that he'd normally have difficulties dealing with.

Name your top three favorite Earth animals from most favorite to least. Why those? What's the animal you're most terrified of?

1. Dogs. Always dogs. They're so non-judgmental.
2. Lions. I don't know why they're awesome, but I guess it's because they're so regal and wild.
3. Cats, regular house cats. I think they're infinitely wise and that they know something humans don't. Why else would they seem so smug and superior?

And I'd have to say the animal I'm most scared of is an insect; ticks. They're so freaky and around here a huge percentage of them carry Lyme disease. :S

Pirate, ninja, zombie, or robot?

What three items would you take to a desert island and why?

Anything from books, movies, games, instruments, music, sporting equipment, etc. You'd be provided with means to fully utilize the chosen items – electricity, MP3 player, etc. –, but you couldn't use them for anything else. Escape is not possible.

A dog to keep me company and protect me from evil forces on the island.
Means to build a good, sturdy house.
And of course my beloved computer.

If you could travel to anywhere in space and time (including fictional universes), where would you go and why?

Pandora, no question. But a time on Pandora much before the sawtute came.

If you were granted one single wish what would it be?

To have my own tropical island. Hm, I don't know. Too many things to wish for... Maybe I'd just wish for a long, happy life. ^^

What is a question you'd ask yourself? How would you answer it?

Why do you procrastinate so much? And I don't know how I'd answer that, because there really isn't a justifiable reason.

Nothing interesting has really ever happened to me around Avatar. My mom sometimes tells her friends I'm learning Na'vi which is really embarrassing. XD

Would you rather be a human on Pandora, or a Na'vi on Earth?

That's hard. I think I'd rather be a human on Pandora because being a Na'vi on Earth would be so depressing....you'd probably get put in a cage in case you posed a danger to society or something.
