NotW #53 Ikran Ahiyìk
« on: April 25, 2011, 09:36:15 pm »
0.   Introduction - something else before all the questions
I hope this would not be noted as "tradition breaking"... :P

Firstly I have to say that my skills of (any) language is not so well.
I've found that some people come and talk with me, and then show me an "I want to say 'bye'" face after a while.
(This is a better case. Worser one would be simply go away.)
Maybe it's because my words are somehow hard to understand.
I hope it's not like that to you.. ;)

What's wrong with the question format?
Based on my personality I like to create my own format..
The font Tempus Sans ITC is great to me. Capitals of Papyrus seems a bit strange to me.
It is still looks comfortable, isn't it?

1.   Who are you?
     Tell us about yourself!
Where are you coming from, what languages do you speak, what do you do, how old are you, tell us a few words about your family, work etc.
This is the job interview part. :D

OK there's no one here knows my real name, but this is going to be no more a secret in <10 seconds.
(unless you close this immediately :P)

My name is Savio Law, 15 years old, and no longer this after 15 days.
I come from Hong Kong, a city in south China, don't know you've heard it or not.
     The language here we use is traditional Chinese, this is written form;
but the spoken one is call Cantonese, not Mandarin as you know usually.
This is an impressive language, one of the one with tricky initial ng- syllables and not included in Frommer's list.
Schools here teach us English too, but without real usage, how well can we be?
This site helped and helping me a lot.

I'm living in one of the most dense region in terms of population in the city.
More than 50,000 people / sq km (130,000 in 1 sq mile). Imagine ;D

Probably a 15 16-year-old guy won't have any work to do yet. I'm still a student.
But something worth mentioning is that I've played piano for 11 years, and got diploma on it.
This affect my interest, my future, and also contribution I to this site..

A few words about my family... parents are nice comparing with my classmates'; ke lu oer kea tsmuk.

2.   Why are you here?
What brought you here to the Learn Na’vi forum in the first place?

I don't understand why people could find here in Dec 20...
My date of first coming is around Jan 10, a lot later already.
But, I think this sub-question should be

"What brought you to learn Na'vi?"

for me, because I won't be here without the language and I was came simply because of learning.

The main reason I interested in the language is because I've got the chance to see the Na'vi words -
those interesting words, and IRAYO MA PAMRELSIYU AYOEYKTÌNGLÌ'UÄ - she simply copy those words to the screen, like this...

I don't know about you, but it is uncommon in Hong Kong.
They usually replace them by other Chinese words sound similar and we never know what it is.
This exceptional case showes me there's really something going on with the mouths of Na'vi.
Many believed that the "language" is "sounds we don't understand with no meanings" only, but I'm not, and googled.
Firstly I've the Wikipedia page (moved to Wikibooks now) about the language, at that moment I started to learn.

     Why?

Knowing something others around you don't know is really really awesome. ;D

After brought to learn Na'vi, and I found learnnavi.org, then this forum also.

Did you fall in love with the language? With Pandora? With a character?

This would be "yes" for most people here, because you won't stay in a site about something without your love with that thing.
Besides being awesome, I think the language sounds very beautiful as Frommer want.
I don't know why, but opening the mouth big and those ejectives give me good impression. Also the vocabularies it have.

World with full of lives is much better than with buildings.
The trees make the whole Pandora seems to be home.
Although it's described as place with full of danger by Quaritch,
this disappears after Jake went out.
No words can describe the bioluminescence..

     Character? Neytiri of course.
Her great personality.. so playful, her smile...
a lot more, but you can find 1,000 answers in some topics..

Did someone invite you? Or did you stumble upon this site?

No one invite me as I said, and I'm being the one inviting but the failing rate is 100%. :-[

Once here, why did you decide to stay?

Because I can talk with (see) many people here shares the same interest, and how close their relationships.
I thought "how good if I can have a girlfriend knows Na'vi too? ;D"
Stop. I don't even have a normal one.

How much time do you spend here every day?

     Calculate yourself...

Total time logged in: 17 days, 3 hours and 15 minutes.
     First active: October 14, 2010, 18:46:56 (GMT +8)

Note that I keep viewing the site for nearly a year,
I won't start posting without TA's advice and Prrton's interesting creation.
     I'm so lucky...

3.   Where do your alias and profile pic come from?
Do they have a special significance?

Just talk about my profile pic:
Is this called a "special significance"? - This is the picture in my wallet.

Is you alias a translation of your real name, or just a bunch of random letters thrown together?

     The later one.
First word - my favourite creature in the movie, with a nice sound too.
Last word - I still remember I was choosing hiyìk or fkew in March 20, and chose this one by fliping head or tail..

Is that you on your profile pic?

Of course not! (but I won't mind if it's me ;D)

5.   What's you favorite Na’vi word? Did you incorporate it (or others) into your everyday vocab?
     (NÌ)'AW.
It is very hard to choose the favourite one from thousands of words.
This is my choice, because of its transient sounds, and the meaning "only".
Being the "only" or "only one" is quite important to me.
But, ... is this notion worng?

6.   In your opinion, what are the top three user-created content on the LN website?
Anything from the main site, the wiki, or the forum including language docs, threads, quotes, literary works, images, etc.

Taronyu's Dictionary - without that I think many of us cannot learn vocabulary clearly.
Prrton's 'Eoio Font - although it's incomplete, it's still impressive to me. See how many places it appears here.
Le'eylan's Prezi Lessons - personally I don't read them much, but information inside is great and I believe that it is useful to the community.

7.   Have you made any contributions to the LN community that you're particularly proud of?
I've made two projects here, but it is subjective to determine are they contributing.
They would be the sheet music and name generator project. You may view the details at my sig.

     What made you make those?

Firstly talk about the generator first. It's because of I saw some other generators only... :P
I've found that their generating formula is not so well, so I tried mine.
This might be helpful if you want a name but have no idea.
For me, now I just want to see what it can make..

About the sheet music project.. hmm... ;D please read first.

Do you plan on contributing (again) in the future? How?

I have a plan to make a list listing all the LEP proposals made for everyone,
so that we can see which idea have proposed.
If yes, we can find them more easily..
But I doubt if it is a good idea. Your answers are helpful.

8.   What is it that you liked/hated the most about Avatar?
     Liked: everything.
     Hated: nothing.
This is the perfect movie I have seen. (maybe it's because I don't watch movies at all.)
When you see the duration of it, you can't imagine how the scenes catches each other,
and you don't feel that you have watched 3 hours, but 3 minutes instead. ;)

How many times have you seen it?

Talking about the real viewings, that would be 16 times (only), 8 of them are in cinema.
I choose to don't watch it much because I don't want to loose the feelings.
Keep it in your mind is somehow better.

My first viewing was on Dec 29 (a late date) without knowing anything before it, and I'm brought by my father...
That wasn't a good viewing because I missed the first 10 min. and I didn't wear my glasses, so I don't understand >50% of the dialouges..
But the magic of it still can send to me by blurred graphics, and I asked my family to go for the second viewings.
This is actually the first time I can see all the contents. Same as the previous NotW - on the New Year Day.

How big of an Avatard are you? Prove it! :D

     1. Learn Na'vi. (many of you also.)

     2. Collect the figures and posters. (some of you also.)

     3. Create my own subtitles.
You may see the screenshot of this in Question 2.
If your first language is not English or you know some languages else (Na'vi is OK), try it.
If I also count the time of making this as viewings, then I have watch the movie 30 times..

     4. Arrange the music.
I spend more than 700 hours on this. Only a huge fan would spend it, yes or not? ;D

9.   Has Avatar changed your life in any way?
Are you trying to become a Na’vi?
     How and to what extent?

I want, but how can I? This is a dream only in fact.. :-[

Do you live on a tree?

No. But it will be interesting if there are several hundred people live together in a "Hometree".

Do you wear your hair in a long braid?

My hair is 5 cm long only... Sometimes I want to be a girl because then I can grow long hair.
Male with long hair here is awful in people's sight..

Or are you just simply blue?

I eat all the food I got.
I switch off the light when I'm bathing. It is very relaxing, try. :)

     Do you bond with animals?

I don't have the bonding device.

Is Gaia on your contact list?

     I will...
          thank her when I'm happy,
ask her when I'm sad, and
talk to her when I'm going to sleep..

Did you have your photo 'shopped?

Although I have black hair, I don't want this...

10.   If you could ask Frommer or Cameron three movie or language related questions what would they be?
You can make requests specific words/expressions too.

     Frommer:
          1. The new LEP has held for 4 periods. Is it successful in your opinion? Is the monthly submission to many or too few?
     Cameron:
          2. Could you please let us know how the day-night cycle Pandora is?
     Both:
          3. What were your expectations of Avatar in November 2009?

11.   What else do you do in you free time?

As a "pianist", I play piano of course.. not so long however, 1 hr / day only..
Maybe it's because of my sheet music project spending too much time?
Anyway this is also music-related. :)

If I'm not playing music, I'll listen to it too.
But what I like is classical music, which is a lot different from most of you, especially people in my age.
It's much more beautiful than what your pop, rock or whatever. Do you SEE it?

12.   Name your top three favorite Earth animals from most favorite to least. Why those? What's the animal you're most terrified of?

     1. Cats
Their sleepy face are cute.. ;D
besides, I call my mum "cat" ;D
     2. Sparrows
They don't walk, but jump instead. And they react to you very quickly..
     3. Penguins
The two only actions I seen on TV: (1) walking unsteady, (2) queue up and jump to the sea.
          I don't know why but I laugh everytime I see these. ;D

The animal I most terrified of is not a single kind, but all insects.
I just afraid of that small size and their actions..

13.   Pirate, ninja, zombie, or robot?
Something else? Maybe a combo? Exactly what subtype? Why?
(For those of you not so versed in trash tropes, this question basically amounts to asking "What superpowers would you like to have?")

     Ninja.. maybe.
I'm not very good at cooperation, so it would be better to complete tasks alone.

     There may be another answer:
Pirate (or Na'vi), so that I can be more active within colleagues, and shares the happiness.

14.   What three items would you take to a desert island and why?
Anything from books, movies, games, instruments, music, sporting equipment, etc.
You'd be provided with means to fully utilize the chosen items – electricity, MP3 player, etc. –, but you couldn't use them for anything else. Escape is not possible. :D

     Water.
     A friend with food.
     (My) Neytiri.

The first one and the half of the second are some musts.
I won't say "I want a forever life".. although this settle the problem.
A friend is improtant, with no one can talk, you will have mental problem and die soon.

You may have questions on the last item (no, she is one of my friend.)
She is one of the figures I bought, sometimes she will be the sign of Eywa and I will talk to her.
I will not leave her. :P

15.   If you could travel to anywhere in space and time (including fictional universes), where would you go and why?

Somewhere sames as others here, would be Pandora (born as a Na'vi there).
This is the world we fall in love with.

But if you want me a more specfic answer, I would say Europe in the 18th - 19th century.
I want to have a look how people on that time appreciate the music. :)

16.   If you were granted one single wish what would it be?

ONE SINGLE.. OK, that would be having better interpersonal skills.
I have to thank someone that I am given talents, but I want this more so that I can show what I really got in front of people.
Now I'm still a secret person.. many things are just.. I don't know how to tell you (of course being chosen as NotW is a good chance..)

17.   What is a question you'd ask yourself? How would you answer it?

Which is the most-difficult-to-answer question for me among these 20?

     #17.

18.   True or false?
Write three statements about yourself, the more extravagant the better. At least one of them must be true.
At the end of the week, you'll have to tell which ones were truthful and which made up.

     1. I know the four fundamental operations of arithmetic when I was 2.
     2. In my life my family have moved house for at least 10 times.
     3. Since I get the Neytiri on Oct 24, I stay with her in 1 metre distance in 95% of my time.

19.   My Life is AVTR - What is the funniest, weirdest, or most embarrassing Na’vi or Avatar related thing that has happened to you?
Something along the lines of a MLIA short.

     One day I was wearing a blue T-shirt, that's really ta'lengean.
My grandma saw me and asked my mum "why he's that looked like an avatar?"
     I hissed at her.

20.   Bonus Question - Your work with the Avatar soundtrack is very impressive. What led you to doing it, and why?

This question shows me that there's someone know about it. Do you..?

What led? This must be another impressive work here: see the founder's work this board.
It's mostly because of I have seen this kind of work, and I tried to ask myself if I can do it.
At first I thought it's an impossible work, but later I found that I got the ability to tell the notes in several voices.
So I started the work, because of it is a good practice, and I can know more about the music the movie used.

Now I can tell you which track it is, in which minute if you give any 5 seconds of any track to me. ;)

Who knows I still haven't complete it after a whole year?

Unfortunately not everyone knows reading sheets..
Differ from art or literary works - everyone understands - mine doesn't have many viewers.
If you want to have a look, check it out here.

Edit: 3 videos made this week. You may take a look. :)

Irayo ma Ekirä. We are not close, but you give me the chance. :)

Ngaytxoa ma frapo. The day now is Tuesday.. I'm so late for this. Forgive me that I have to think much about each question..

Bonus Question(s) for the next NotW

Choose any one of the following questions.

     1. "The music of Avatar is one of the only-a-few good music in these years." Do you agree?

     2. What is "Spam" section to you?

     3. If you can, do you want to live with hundreds of people in Hometree?

     4. Would you feel sorry to post here if you haven't give a single reply to any NotW?

     5. When someone talking about your talents, what would you do:
          - Tell them more about that? or
          - Tell them you are not that good?
         Why?

Sorry for keep-on editing.

The NotW one. Oh.. it's given by the system? But I can't see anything once I post this, so I guess it's given by someone..

anyway this is reletively less improtant thing.

Just wonder if it's OK to make 1+ bonus questions, and show everyone right now..?

..

(are these show that I know nothing about it :P)
