My real name is Sarah, and I have always lived in St. Louis, Missouri.  I learned biology in college because I want to become a veterinarian.  Right now I work with a vet; this is excellent training.  My family is only my mother, my aunt, and three cats, Paikea, Yana, and Cooper.  Also I have a half-sister, Alicia, who is our father's daughter.

I was feeling very depressed and worthless.  Then I saw Avatar and loved the movie!  I lurked on a few websites until I became curious about the Na'vi language.  I discovered this website and decided that I would learn this language.  I'm still here because I just can't stop learning now.  Also the people on the forum are so awesome!  Cool!

The name "Alyara Arati" has no meaning in Na'vi.  I just put names into a name generator until I found a name that I liked.  These are Chela (Sanskrit for student) and Sarita (Spanish for little Sarah).  And yes, my picture is truly me, half Avatarized.  It's an old photo so it isn't entirely clear and sharp, but I like it anyway.

I think that I can write in Na'vi pretty well, but I can only speak in Na'vi a little and this is very slow.  However I am still learning and I practice often with my fabulous teacher, Sireayä mokri.  That I am learning the Na'vi language pleases my family, but they don't like to listen.  As for my friends, the same.

What's you favorite Na'vi word? Did you incorporate it (or others) into your everyday vocab?

I like the word "yes" best.  I love the sound and the meaning is nice as well.  However I only use it when I'm chatting with a few friends from the forum.

Well, I write a little in Na'vi.  This started as just practice, but I have always wanted to be a writer.  So far I have written eight stories and twelve poems in Na'vi.  You can find them in Writing in Na'vi Only.  Also that other people are writing there, pleases me so much!

What is it that you liked/hated the most about Avatar ?

This question is a difficult choice.  However I believe that I like the spiritual/soulful feeling of the movie best.  I am a meditator, so this matters to me a great deal.  I have seen Avatar maybe 16 times, maybe more.  I don't truly remember the number.

Avatar is the reason that I became Alyara Arati and being her has changed my life.  Also the Na'vi way of thinking is part of Alyara.  Ordinarily I am very quiet and maybe too shy.  I, as Sarah, now feel more confident and braver because Alyara has been my face and voice.  I am truly a happier woman.
