Who am I?
Kaltxì ma 'eylan.  My real name is Michael Gillogly and I am a recent graduate of Purdue University with a B.S. in Computer Science (2009) Boiler UP!!!  If you couldn't tell from what I went to school for, I am a software developer.  I am currently involved with a small start-up, we are making a new RFID based timing system for athletic events (cycling, running, etc.).  Another project I am involved with is the "Learn Na'vi" mobile app.  I am the lead developer for the iPhone OS version.  I know C, C++, Obj-C, C#, Java, PERL, Action Script, PHP, SQL, and Ti-Basic, though I only speak English and a very small bit of Spanish.

Why are you here?
I knew absolutely nothing about Avatar before I went to see it.  A friend of mine wanted me to go see the movie with him when it first came out at midnight.  Due to operator error with Fandango on my friends part, he thought it was sold out and then decided not to come and then went to bed.  I had no issue with Fandango, so I went ahead and watched the movie by myself.  Needless to say, the movie absolutely blew me away.  When I got home after seeing it, I could not get to bed.  I just wanted to experience more of Avatar.  I ended up buying the Soundtrack for the movie that night and I ended up falling asleep while listening to it.

The next day I started looking into information about the language.  I then came across a Yahoo mailing list that was setup for people who were interested in the language.  I joined the list and then my email inbox just about exploded.  New emails were coming in faster than I could read them.  Then someone on the list had this crazy idea that we should create an online forum for everyone to discuss the language.  Payoang (aka Seabass) came to the rescue and created this site.  My claim to fame is that I was the first person (besides Payoang) to register on the forum.  The longest time I've spent away from the forum since it was created was about 2 weeks a couple months back when I got really busy on a work related project.  My total time active here is at over 9 days.

Where did your alias and profile pic come from?
Anyone who has seen the movie should recognize my screen name, if not go back and watch the movie again.  My profile pic is the icon for the "Learn Na'vi" App.  The icon was based on one of the website logo submissions from this past winter.  I also created my signature myself.  It was modeled off of the LearnNa'vi Moderator and Administrator signatures.

Srak nga tsun nìna'vi pivlltxe?
Srane, oe nìna'vi plltxe.  I know some Na'vi.  I should know quite a bit more than I do for how long I've been active on here.  My excuse is that I've spent most of my time developing the "Learn Na'vi" mobile app for iPhone OS & Android.  My goal with the language would be to know enough that when the next movie comes out that I could understand what they are saying without needing to look at the subtitles.

What's your favorite Na'vi word? Did you incorporate it (or others) into your everyday vocab?
I've always been a fan of the word "atxkxe" just because of how it sounds with the double ejectives.  Don't really use it in everyday vocab, but its still fun to say.

In your opinion, what are the top three user-created content on the LN website?
Taronyu's dictionary, Na'vi in a Nutshell, and Learn Na'vi Activity Book.

Have you made any contributions to the LN community that you're particularly proud of?
Srane, I am lead developer of the Learn Na'vi Mobile App.  I started working on it as a fun project for me to learn how to develop iPhone OS applications.  Its still a very active project, and any help on it is greatly appreciated (we currently have 4 active developers on the project).

What is it that you liked/hated the most about Avatar?
I really like the overall storyline of the movie, and all the AMAZING special effects.  I didn't realize until after the fact that it was all motion capture.  When I saw it the first time, I really thought it was the actual actors with prosthetics and makeup on.

Has Avatar changed your life in any way?
Its changed what I do with my free time now, but my skin hasn't changed color yet...

If you could ask Frommer or Cameron three movie or language related questions, what would they be?
-What are the lyrics used in the soundtrack?
-When will some "Official" Na'vi books be out?
-If given the opportunity, would you teach Na'vi as a foreign language at USC?

What else do you do in your free time?
I like to play Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 with friends in my free time.

Name your top three favorite Earth animals from most favorite to least.  Why those? What's the animal you're most terrified of?
Penguin, Fox, Dog.  I've always liked penguins for some reason, ever since I was a child.  That feeds in nicely with my choice of Server OS, CentOS linux (for those that don't know, the mascot of linux is a penguin).  My website domain name is snowyfox.com (Nothing there right now) and if I had to chose between cats or dogs, I would probably go with a dog. The animal I am most terrified of would probably be a bear, just because it has the capability to tear me apart...

Pirate, ninja, zombie, or robot?
Robot...

What three items would you take to a desert island and why?
Macbook Pro, an air conditioned tent, and satellite dish for internet access.  Must I explain?

If you could travel anywhere in space and time (including fictional universes), where would you go and why?
I would go into the future to see what crazy new technology we will have at some point.

If you were granted one single wish what would it be?
That the world would stop using MS Windows and switch to Mac or Linux...

What is a question you'd ask yourself? How would you answer it?
Is the Learn Na'vi Mobile App for iPhone ever going to make it to the App Store?  Srane, sometime this month hopefully...

True or false?
A) I've completed a 100 mile bike ride in one day
B) I've met Steve Jobs
C) My favorite programming language is Java

What is the funniest, weirdest, or most embarrassing Na'vi or Avatar related thing that has happened to you?
The only weird thing thats happened to me was when I was at a video game store recently and saw a game titled "Toruk" which seemed odd.  So I picked it up and started reading the back of the game when I realized it was actually "Turok"...

If you could sit down and talk to Steve Jobs (or if you did) what questions would you/did you ask and why?
-Why is there no Dvorak Support on the iPhone or iPad?
-What is your least favorite product that Apple has ever made?
-What is your favorite product that Apple has ever made?
-Do you prefer a single button mouse still?

Congrats! Anyway, I'm going to say TTF because all good programmers know that Java sucks :P I'm working on question #20.

Ok, I got it!

20. If you could sit down and talk to Steve Jobs (or if you did) what questions would you/did you ask and why?

Seze

Question 20 has been added to the original post.

I've no idea about the true or false so I'm going to guess TFT.

Congrats btw.

Muzer

There have been quite a few attempted transcriptions of Jake's First Flight, and presumably any others that have vocals, in the Fan Music subforum. No idea how accurate they are...

I reckon it's TTF (ooh, true-type font)
[21:42:56] <@Muzer> Apple products used to be good, if expensive
[21:42:59] <@Muzer> now they are just expensive

I know there has been some work on translating the soundtrack, but it would be nice to get the for sure correct original lyrics...

False across the board.

"Peace on Earth" was all it said.

That would be against the rules.  All I will say is that per the rules, at least 1 of those questions is true...

Ooh good one, I had no idea you were number 2. That's pretty awesome. I haven't seen you around much lately though maybe I've just been looking in the wrong places.

Anyway, I'd say TTF (Java was the first language I learned to program in and even then I hated it).

Seze

I usually hang out in the Projects section.  I am also a mod in that section as well now...

That's so cool dude! haha yeah, I cant wait till LN hits the iPhone App store. so yeah if you need any picture/audio support before it gets there, let me know. I should be able to get something together for you. :D I enjoy learning a little about people in this forum... This NotW idea was a very good one..I believe it captures a certain vibe of unity and coming together as a community and getting to know each other a little bit better...a unity that was a theme of AVATAR. good stuff!

Steve Jobs is one of the founders and the current CEO of Apple, Inc.  There is no single owner of Apple.  Steve Jobs was actually fired from Apple back in 1985...

Funny story about that, actually xD You should read up on it.

Didn't know that. I stand corrected. One of the apple big-wigs basically.
