The name's Ivana, I'm 23 and live in Uppsala with one of my best friends and a bunch of dust bunnies. I study chemical engineering (which has nothing to do with building bridges, why do people always think that?). I'm into languages, mythology, photography and everything to do with sci-fi and fantasy.

Why are you here?

What brought you here to the Learn Na'vi forum in the first place? Did you fall in love with the language? With Pandora? With a character? Did someone invite you? Or did you stumble upon this site? Once here, why did you decide to stay? How much time do you spend here every day?

I had entirely missed the whole Avatar hype, all I had seen was a blue poster and decided I needed to see it. I fell in love with Pandora and thought it'd be awesome to be able to speak Na'vi, even though I was sure there'd only be the few words from the movie and nothing else. Anyway, when I got home I just googled "learn na'vi" and voila! This site showed up as the second result. I joined a day later and I'm still here.

What kept me here is all the helpful people who have patience with linguistics noobs like me. And not to mention all the new friends I've found here and would love to meet irl. I know I don't pay enough attention to all of you these days, I'll get better at it, I promise

Where do your alias and profile pic come from?

Do they have a special significance? Is you alias a translation of your real name, or just a bunch of random letters thrown together? Is that you on your profile pic?

My alias is an emergency nickname I just picked so I could join the site and the plan was to come up with a better one, but this stuck and I can't really change it now that people know me as Nyx. Besides, it works with my interest in mythology. I translated my real name later, it's under my pic.

As for the avatar, I've been through a few. Right now it's evil Neytiri , but some might recognize my Tinkerbell avatarization, which I did because my first picture was of my Tink pumpkin carving and needed an update.

How well? Why did you start to learn it? What is your ultimate goal with the language? Do you have specific methods/tools you use in learning the language? How did your friends, family, or colleagues react to your interest in learning Na'vi? Have you told them at all? Have you converted any of them?

What's you favorite Na'vi word? Did you incorporate it (or others) into your everyday vocab?

I have a few. My iPhone is called atokirina', but I love tskxe and such strange words, and the general sound of Na'vi is just awesome

In your opinion, what are the top three user-created content on the LN website?

The dictionary, William's grammar and the Wiki. And [insert obligatory shout-out to entire community here] .

Have you made any contributions to the LN community that you're particularly proud of?

What made you make those? Do you plan on contributing (again) in the future? How?

I've made some funny pictures, does that count? No really, I made an infix chart that I hope has been useful to at least one more person. I'm on the LEP committee now (which has been loads of fun) and I try to keep some boards in order.
Oh and then there's the thing with some people thinking I'll turn them into burgers, I'm proud of that

What is it that you liked/hated the most about Avatar ?

How many times have you seen it? How big of an Avatard are you? Prove it!

I would've liked better dialogue and a bit less predictable plot but the only thing that really bothers me is the dialogue during Jake's first flight ("I turn, I feel the wind", "I banked so hard"), that montage would've been so beautiful without those awkward lines. I loved everything else especially the forest and all the glowy bits (I'm like a magpie... "SHINY"). The first time I saw Avatar, I was almost drooling... which isn't very convenient when you're trying to eat a burger at the same time... (yes, I snuck a burger into the cinema, and it was wrapped in aluminum foil... people hated me )

Has Avatar  changed your life in any way?

Are you trying to become a Na'vi? How and to what extent? Do you live on a tree? Do you wear your hair in a long braid? Or are you just simply blue? Do you bond with animals? Is Gaia on your contact list? Did you have your photo 'shopped?

I've learned a new language that I can't use irl. Is that enough of a change?

If you could ask Frommer or Cameron three movie or language related questions what would they be?

What else do you do in you free time?

I travel as much as I can afford, take photos of everything I pass and then photoshop the hell out of them. I play video games and complicated boardgames and watch way too many movies. And I take every chance I get to go to a dress up party, because costuming is fun!

Name your top three favorite Earth animals from most favorite to least. Why those? What's the animal you're most terrified of?

I'm not really terrified of any animals, but who knows, I probably would be if I were faced with something that wants to eat me. The worst I can think of that I actually encounter are insects. They bug me.

What three items would you take to a desert island and why?

Anything from books, movies, games, instruments, music, sporting equipment, etc. You'd be provided with means to fully utilize the chosen items – electricity, MP3 player, etc. –, but you couldn't use them for anything else. Escape is not possible.

I'm just gonna go ahead and decide that we're talking about a tropical island, so: sunscreen, bug spray and ketchup (because everything tastes good with enough ketchup)

If you could travel to anywhere in space and time (including fictional universes), where would you go and why?

Now I regret suggesting this question... I don't have a good reply. Maybe that tropical island above or Middle Earth or Valhalla or Mount Olympus. Come to think of it, there's this world I made up a few years ago, I'd love to go there.

If you were granted one single wish what would it be?

Assuming this is a deal with a genie, I'd first sit the genie down and explain what a Fluttersmush is. I'd make sure I cover all the things I want to be, have and be able to do, and make sure to cover all the gaps so there's no room for any of that nasty genie trickery. When I'm done with that, I'd just wish to be a Fluttersmush

What is a question you'd ask yourself? How would you answer it?

I'm not easily embarrassed by crazy things, I have a way too easy time laughing at myself and I do crazy things for fun. I could mention cosplaying as the most fun thing, the attention I got was insane!

Yes, I doubt we're as special as some people would like to think. With all the possible variations on life and the vastness of space, I think it's more likely than not that there's life on other planets. But there's no way in Hades they'd bother coming here to mess with our fields, unless they're trolls

I have kind of a similar story, I didn't see Avatar in theaters will March 23, 2010, waaayyy after all the cool action figures and stuff were off the shelves. I had never heard anything about it except a few words from a friend or mine: "It looks cool." I too fell in love instantly and when I found out there was a whole language to it I was all 'GASP I have to learn everything about it! I met Tirea Aean on FB and he showed me this lovely site which I joined April 27, 2010

First one, I guess is false...
Second one, I think is true, since you do chemical engineering...
And the third one I definetly know is false, cuz laying a long time at night in the snow at 243.15 Kelvin, you would freeze to death. Here in the Netherlands, that temperature is rare. ( I learned about Kelvin in Physics )

First one, I guess is false...
Second one, I think is true, since you do chemical engineering...
And the third one I definetly know is false, cuz laying a long time at night in the snow at 243.15 Kelvin, you would freeze to death. Here in the Netherlands, that temperature is rare. ( I learned about Kelvin in Physics )

You wouldn't freeze to death... Pending that you've properly covered, lying in the snow at ~-29 degrees centigrade wouldn't kill you. I was quite comfortable in -20 degrees centigrade in Berlin and that wasn't even on a summit.
