Meuia te Stxeli Tstew'itan

Who am I?
Kaltxì. Oel ayngati kameie ma eylan. Oeru syaw fko Etienne Maheu. I'm from Quebec and I'm studying in college in Computer Science. More precisely, software programming. I'm fluent in French, English, C++, various other programming language and hope to soon add Na'vi to this list. I am currently running my own company where we build custom softwares for other businesses. From a more personal point of view, I love animes, role playing and music. My entire family play some sort of instrument. I am actually drummer myself and enjoy it very much.

Why are you here?
I didn't heard about Avatar before mid-January where a group of friends decided to go see it. I tagged along thinking it would be just an other good movie. Long story short, we missed the 5 first minutes of the movie and I was the only one that wanted to absolutely know what they were. I ended up watching it a second time with my parents and again and again up to 15 times just in IMAX.

On the first viewing, i noticed that some words where actually used more than one time which implied that it could actually be a real language. As soon as it happened, I didn't waited, grabbed my iPhone in the middle of the movie and stealthly googled for "Learn Na'vi" just to make sure I didn't imagined anything. The first link happened to be here! LearnNavi.org! I closed back my phone, waited for the movie to finish and created my profile on the way home.

Where did your alias and profile pic come from?
My first alias and picture were actually coming from 4 years backs. I used a Japanese name (kawazoe) I always loved and wonderful drawing of Link that I found on the internet. The new ones though are a translation of my real name using the Na'vi naming conventions and a photo of me in my Avatar makeup.

Srake nga tsun nìna'vi pivlltxe?
Srane. Oe tsun nìNa'vi pivlltxe slä oe kin oeyä lì'uyä pongu asim. Oeyä karyu, Tirea Aean, txantsan loleiu tìkar lì'fya leNa'vi. I hope that I didn't failed at praising him right there or that my word processing software didn't auto-corrected me somewhere I don't want it to. I am not fluent yet. I have a good understanding of the grammar but my vocabulary is very limited. It gets better and better every day though and I'm very proud of where I am right now.

What's your favorite Na'vi word? Did you incorporate it (or others) into your everyday vocab?
Even though it is not official yet, I would say prrkxentrrkrr. This word gave me a lot of fun and is actually how I learned to roll my rr! I try to use it from time to time when talking about random stuff and it fits in pretty well.

In your opinion, what are the top three user-created content on the LN website?
Taronyu's dictionary, Learn Na'vi iPhone App and Na'vi in a Nutshell

Have you made any contributions to the LN community that you're particularly proud of?
I helped a lot of people just about everywhere. One of my biggest contribution is currently in the scripting project but will soon be replaced by some work I am doing as sound engineer in the Avatar Audio Drama.

What is it that you liked/hated the most about Avatar?
What I liked the most is how it can make you dream easily. It has the power to make you laugh and cry at the same time just by talking about it. What I hated the most is how much the return to reality can be painful afterward.

Has Avatar changed your life in any way?
I went from a no life shy geek to a person who dress up as a Na'vi in comicons that happens in other countries. I am not the same person anymore... at all.

If you could ask Frommer or Cameron three movie or language related questions, what would they be?
1. Would you release the lyrics used in the soundtrack?
2. Would you like to create a course that teachers could offer at college and university?
3. If you had to create an other language, would you make it simpler or more complex than Na'vi?

What else do you do in your free time?
I usually don't have any. But for the rare moment I have, I try to go and relax in the forest behind my home.

Name your top three favorite Earth animals from most favorite to least.  Why those? What's the animal you're most terrified of?
Tiger, Wolf, Eagle. I always loved wild animals. I like the way they live and find it intriguing. The reason why the tiger is the first is because I am a cat person. I feel like they can understand me or something and the most impressive cat of all is definitely the tiger. Plus, don't you think they look a bit like a Na'vi will all the stripes :) The animal that I would be the most terrified of is probably some rare type of spiders and snakes simply because I don't really know anything about them.

Pirate, ninja, zombie, or robot?
Paytute...

What three items would you take to a desert island and why?
iPad, something to remove the salt from water and most importantly, my beloved.

If you could travel anywhere in space and time (including fictional universes), where would you go and why?
I would probably find a nice little place on Pandora.

If you were granted one single wish what would it be?
That people could stop asking existential questions and actually start to get answers.

What is a question you'd ask yourself? How would you answer it?
Will I get fluent in Na'vi soon enough for the next ComiCon? I'll try. I hope I do because it will just make my cosplay even cooler :D

True or false?
A) My girlfriend and me met in the LearnNa'vi community
B) I have more than 3 friends in less than 100km from my home that can speak Na'vi
C) I love skiing

What is the funniest, weirdest, or most embarrassing Na'vi or Avatar related thing that has happened to you?
I answered a business call with "kaltxì" even though I never met the other person before...

How/why did you get involved with Cosplay?
I used to do LARPing when I was younger, I played as a dark-elven and loved it. When I saw the cosplay thread on the LearnNa'vi forums, I couldn't resist to take a look at what people had already done and surprisingly, the sub-forum was actually nearly empty. There was only 8 threads! So, I started one to get the discussion going. It was about high-tech ways to get the Na'vi costume as realistic as possible and it kinda ended up with ways to actually modify your body to be Na'vi and not just look like them.

Soon after that, ExLib talked to me about the Phoenix ComiCon that was to happen in a couple of months. At first, nearly everybody from the TeamSpeak server was supposed to go there and meet so I thought it would be an awesome idea to go even though it was a 4500km ride. Since I never do something half-way and that whole being Na'vi discussion got really inspiring, I decided to get there in makeup and try to use some of those ideas. As I was slowing building my makeup, people started get out of the project and I ended being the only one officially going there with ExLib.

It was an awesome experience and I can't wait to get it done again next year... but next time... it is going to be even more impressive and fun :D

Noooooo!!!!! Does this mean na'vi will get less attention? I hope not.

Anyway, conga-rats for being NotW, I'm going to guess T/TF/FT (the first sounds too good to have been made up, 100 km is a big area, I'd actually be surprised if it wasn't more than 3 and well, all true would be a bit boring).

Well, that movie doesn't come out until 2012, so we will have plenty of time collecting more Na'vi-members ^^

Where do you live?!? I've got one person marked on the map and I know someone IRL in that range, plus from the facebook group I know at least two others easily in 100km of me, that's quite a big distance.

edit: hmmm... actually, in the states or Canada 100km's going to cover a lot less people, population density's about 7.5 times greater here in the UK. In that case, knowing that meuia's Canadian, I'll revise my guess to TFT, as le'eylan says, skiing is pretty popular.

Your population density's even lower than that of the states!  :P

Judging by the map, the long nights in the winter when we had the biggest influx of members doesn't seem to have played in your favour either.

Most people just call me Kawazoe since it was the name they learned. I think it's alright, I really only use Meuia in the forums.

Actually, this might have more to do with the fact that I'm still in Arizona and it's UTC -7 here. I did missed the two first lesson in PNgN because of the ComiCon which doesn't really help...
