Teylar Ta Palulukankelku

Who are you?

Kaltxì, ma frapo  :)! Oel ayngati kameie  :). My name is Emil Josefsson and i'm a 16-year-old Swedish boy from the town of Gothenburg who loves history, languages, eating good food, playing video games, hanging out with friends and family and being a geek, first and foremost about Avatar. I speak my native tongue Swedish, English, un poco Español and, of course a bit Na'vi. I'm currently in the stage of my education called gymnasium here in Sweden, which is sort of a mix between an American high school and collage. My family consists of me, my dad, my mom and my rabbit Pepino. I love modern Hard Rock and Metal and i'm aspiring to become a musician someday. Professionally or just as a hobby, i'm not sure yet.

Why are you here?

After i saw Avatar for the first time, on December 28th 2009, i was in a intoxication-like state for several weeks where i wasn't completely sure what was real and what was just imagination, like the movie and it's universe blended in with my reality. It was one of the best and toughest times of my life at the same time. In this mental blur, i looked through wikipedia articles, google searches etc. in search of Avatar-related information. And one day (I can't remember exactly how it happened.) in January 2010, i stumbled across this website and it's forum, but it wasn't until July 13th (for some reason) the same year that i actually joined the forum. The people i met were kind and warm and lovely and i felt welcomed with open arms. The amount of time i spend here every day varies from time to time; Sometimes i'm not on for almost an entire week and sometimes i'm on several hours every day. I can say this, however; My interest in the Na'vi language and Avatar has never completely faded, even though i've doubted my interest at times.

Where do your alias and profile pic come from?

``Teylar´´ is based on a Na'vi name translator i found through a link on this website. When i typed in my name, Emil, and selected ``gender: male´´, the name Teylar came up. I remembered that my Tawtute name originates from the Latin name Aemilius and that it means kind. So i thought: Aemilus -> kind -> friendly -> friend -> 'eylan -> 'eylan sounds a bit like Teylar. So to me, Teylar means friendly  :D. ``Ta Palulukankelku´´, which could be translated as ``Home Of The Lion´´ originates from the fact that the city i live in, Gothenburg, has a lion as it's coat of arms. My profile pic is a picture taken by my mother
of me trying on my avatar/Na'vi makeup prototype in summer 2010.

Srak nga tsun nìna'vi pivlltxe?

A bit, yes, although i have to admit i should study it more instead of just talking about what-not on this forum (even though that's very fun to do). I believe i could have a basic conversation in Na'vi, but not much else.

What's you favorite Na'vi word? Did you incorporate it (or others) into your everyday vocab?

I used a lot of Na'vi words in my conversations the first couple of months after i saw the movie for the first time, but that slowly died down after a while as my fanatical obsession did as well (Even though i'm still a bit of a Avatar fanatic  :P.). I still occasionally use Na'vi phrases in conversations with family and friends, ``skxawng´´ in particular (Most of said people know what that means.)  ;D. I can't pick an absolute favorite word, although i'm very fond of ``yawne´´, seeing as how i'm in my teens and contemplate on sex and love a lot, and i feel that the sound of the word itself is very smooth, soft, sensual, tender and loving <3  :).

In your opinion, what are the top three user-created content on the LN website?

Since i like so many of the things here on this forum, i can't really pick any single top three favorites  :-\ :).

Have you made any contributions to the LN community that you're particularly proud of?

Besides a few small and rather insignificant threads, i haven't really made any contributions to this forum. I'm hoping i will someday, though  :).

What is it that you liked/hated the most about Avatar ?

I've seen Avatar four times, one in cinema in 2D, one in cinema in 3D, one on DVD (original theatrical version) and one time on Blu-Ray (CE version).

The things i liked most about Avatar were the visual effects (Well, not as much the effects themselves as the intense realistic feel they induced.), the basic, ``unoriginal´´ (In a good way; I loved it's straightforwardness and i see it as proof that you don't have to twist a plot around like a noose a thousand times just to make it interesting  :).) plot, it's anti-corporate message, the spiritual and beautiful feel of the overall movie, the Na'vi language and the Na'vi themselves and Jake and Neytiri, both as standalone people and as a couple (I probably forgot something  :P.)

My dislike-list is quite short; A few of the lines could have been left out/altered, same goes for a few bits of the acting, which IMO where a bit over the top on a few occasions, the pacing in few parts of the movie and the fact that some scenes that IMO would've worked well in the movie were left out.

Has Avatar  changed your life in any way?

Avatar has definitely made me think more about the environment, politics and the world around me than before (Even if these things was a lot on my mind before that, too.). I've occasionally behaved like a Na'vi, both for fun and because of my sense of awe and respect for them. I get reminded of Pandora in some way almost every time i'm in a forest. Athleticism like Parkour and similar athletic concepts appeal to me even more now. I'm growing my hair long so that i can braid it and maybe even get a tswìn (Even though it's also because i'm a Hard Rocker/Metalhead and i think headbanging is more fun when you have long hair.)

If you could ask Frommer or Cameron three movie or language related questions what would they be?

1. To Frommer: Even if Cameron said you didn't have to further develop the Na'vi language for the Avatar films, would you still do it for the fun of it and for us fans?
2. To Cameron: Why the heck did you postpone the sequels so far  >:(  :(?!
3. To both: Do you think Na'vi could become a language recognized by the general public in the future?

What else do you do in you free time?

Basically what i mentioned in question #1; Playing video games, hanging out with friends etc.

Name your top three favorite Earth animals from most favorite to least. Why those? What's the animal you're most terrified of?

1. Rabbit, because i think they're adorable and they're very social and cuddly (At least my rabbit Pepino is  :D.).
2. All kinds of felines, basically.
3. Dogs (Preferably medium-to-large pointy nosed ones.). They are very social and energetic in general.

The animal i'm most terrified of is spiders (at least the large, fur-less ones). I'm quite a big arachnophobe.

Pirate, ninja, zombie, or robot?

Ninja; Move fast, jump high and being athletic as hell  ;D.

What three items would you take to a desert island and why?

Material to build a raft to (eventually) get home, food and other essential supplies and a kind, beautiful and sweet girl to spend my time with  :) <3.

If you could travel to anywhere in space and time (including fictional universes), where would you go and why?

Well, duh  :P... Pandora, of course  :)!

If you were granted one single wish what would it be?

For all world conflicts to end and starting of negotiations.

What is a question you'd ask yourself? How would you answer it?

How will i find the girl of my dreams?

I don't know. That doesn't mean i should give up all hope, though  :)!

True or false?

1. I've been on television.
2. I have Ian McKellen's autograph.
3. I have Michael Ironside's autograph.

What is the funniest, weirdest, or most embarrassing Na'vi or Avatar  related thing that has happened to you?

Don't know. There have been quite a few incidents of embarrassing/weird/funny Avatar/Na'vi related things that has happened to me. I just can't remember anyone right now  :-\.

Bonus question, asked by the previous NotW, Uniltìrantokx te Skxawng:

If Avatar had gibberish instead of Na'vi, would you still like it?

Probably not. I'm not completely sure but i'd probably be a bit disappointed since i think that i thought/hoped Na'vi would be a complete language even before i saw the movie. I don't know why. I just had a hunch  :-\. I'm not completely sure how i would've felt.

Zoe Saldana is currently busy with Star Trek 12, and production of Avatar 2 won't start before the former is completed.

Well, it's quite hard to decide which is true or false.
On the one hand, everyone is on television anywhere anytime, but for reasons I don't know, my guess is:

F/T/T

I don't know... Meh, if you were on TV before, I would guess T/T/F.

Edited my questionnaire last Friday and added the bonus question asked by the previous NotW, since he (Uniltìrantokx te Skxawng) hadn't asked me before i made the post in the first place. I hope it's okay to edit these questionnaires ``post-post´´ (;D), so to speak  :-\  ???.

Sorry, i don't understand German  :-\.

Do you think the sequels are being postponed just because of that  ????! I find that a bit unlikely.

Am i the first European to post a questionnaire here at NotW  ????

Sorry if it might take i while (a few days) before the next NotW posts his/her questionnaire here  :(, 'cus i haven't asked anyone yet if they want to be next week's NotW, but i'll do it soon.

And here's the answer to the ``True/False´´ statements:

1: True. When i was 11 years old i was at a science center called Universeum in my home town. That day the first swede in space, Christer Fuglesang (not sure if i spelled that correctly) and the other members of the crew were visiting Universeum as part a sort-of ``homecoming event´´. There, i was interview by a reporter who was walking around asking children my age and younger about their thoughts on the whole thing. A newscast about the event was subsequently aired several times on a local TV channel, containing my interview, amongst other things.

2: False. I've never even met Ian McKellen in person.

3: True. I got it on a Sci-Fi convention in spring 2010. Speaking of which: I was at the same Sci-Fi convention today (it is held annually) and i got the autograph of the guy who plays Colonel John Shepherd in Stargate Atlantis; Joe Flanigan  :)!
