Hey,

I have spoken to the developers of Diaspora and they seem happy for it to be translated into na'vi I will be starting translations ASAP (Just need to sort the translation system out) and help doing this would be great. I realise it's a big task and it won't be easy. Diaspora for those who don't know is a piece of software which is fully open source and acts a bit like Facebook and a bit like Twitter (has aspects of both). You can run your own instance of this and have it link with all the others so we could even have our own na'vi ones if we wish (or we could use the main one at http://joindiaspora.com). I realise a lot of us are on facebook and twitter and moving would be a pain. I think how I'm going to work it is have my na'vi side of thing on the diaspora instance where diaspora also will be in na'vi and keep my facebook for my non-na'vi places. Diaspora can also link with things like twitter so I believe you can make it so posts to it will also go to twitter (I will be doing that).

What do you think, please let me know if you'd like to help. I'll keep this thread updated with the status.

set thread to notify. I have interest, but have limited time. I'd use this.

Okay So an update. Diaspora and the translation service (webtranslateit) have got back to me, we have set it up for now under the art_nvi ISO code until na'vi get it's official one. Translations have started. If you would like to help out let me know and I'll give you instructions :)

Fantastic! I suggested this project to be translated since a while. You can base yourself on the Facebook translation file.

Motivate your translators!  :)

Tsyesìka

That's awesome :) Currently it's just me translating which I don't mind but I do worry about the quality of my translations, I am trying to use the facebook ones where I see fit but there are a lot of things they have not translated such as "sign in", "username", "password", etc... as well as diaspora only things such as "aspects" and such.

If you want to translate, sign up to:
http://webtranslateit.com

Then go to https://webtranslateit.com/en/projects/3020-Diaspora and click:
"Want to see diaspora in your language? Join the translations team and help with the translations"

Use the drop down list to select "Artifical Language Na'vi" then "Request" invitation.

Once you've been accepted by the diaspora translation guys (you will be) when you logon it will come up "Diaspora" and you click that, once there the second tab along is translations and you can start translating (feel free to correct mine)

Thanks ^_^

30 DAY free trial?? How in the world will we ever get the whole thing translated in that time? I can't do this if I have to keep paying for my own efforts thereafter. (sorry for my cheapness, but I'm a fulltime college student who kinda just makes enough to pay bills, gas, and tolls O.o)

Tirea Aean you've misunderstood, to translate it's free, to host your software translations on there it's costly, ignore that, it'll be fine. It just means your OWN software can't be setup on there to translate, diaspora would be the one that pays (though they were given an account free)

OHHHHH.

In that case, I'll start as soon as I can! :D :D

Anyone else who you like to participate in the translation?

Tsyesìka

Everyone :D Any help we can get we want. Feel free to change any translations i've done also if you think they're wrong or even if you just think you've got a better way of saying it.

We're translating :) Not only that but instances of Diaspora such as the main one (http://joindiaspora.com) have pulled the changes. I'm not sure how often they pull the changes but I have set my language on it to Na'vi and am seeing na'vi popping up :) I'd love for more to get translating besides a few things It still looks like i've done the most.

How people want this to work I don't know, the way diaspora works is we could set up our own instance of it and have our own na'vi community or we could simply use one out there already such as joindiaspora (if you want an invite just to check it out feel free to ask). Remember Diaspora is in alpha still but from my usage of it, it seems okay.

I'll post some pictures of me on diaspora to show you some of the na'vi, there is still a lot to be translated so if you think there is a lot of english, there is but you can help change that!

It would be good to decide if we do want to join a cetral diaspora or such as joindiaspora or indeed setup our own Na'vi social network with us on conversing in purely na'vi. At the moment I'm simply tagging my things (like tags on microblogging platforms such as twitter or identica) with #navi (glottal stops don't work in tags as of yet but i might bring that up) and providing the english with them as most on joindiaspora seem not to know na'vi (well it's to be expected right :P).

Would people be interested in a purely na'vi one or would setting it up with a domain and server be not something we'd want to do. I'm just trying to get a feel for what is happening, if that is what we want maybe we could start looking into someone to host it (I might be able to at a push), if someone in the community has a domain (I remember tirea saying something about it) or if one needs to be purchased. etc...

Tirea Aean

imo it would be pretty cool to have a diaspora installed on LN.

Tsyesìka

This would be great, how would we go about getting this sorted?  :)

Tirea Aean

by hoping that Payoang or Toruk Makto are reading this thread.

kidding, Ill bring it up to them.

Tsyesìka

Awesome sounds good :) Also (this goes to everyone) we really need more translations, if you look a few posts back I gave instructions on how to sign up to webtranslateit and begin translating if we can all do that it'd be fantastic, I have exams so the amount of time I can dedicate to it is limited.

My na'vi isn't fantastic also so if you found translations which are wrong or think can be translated better please go ahead and change them. Any navification of english words please post here so we all know to use them in future and update current translations if they have been translated some other way.
