Since being added to the users of http://wiki.learnnavi.org/, I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be cool if the entire wiki interface was in Na'vi?  Then users of Wikipedia could pick that as their default language.  Heck, we might be able to start nav.wikipedia.org! (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wikipedias)!"

Anyway, translatewiki.net has a page for creating a translation of the mediawiki interface (http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Translating:MediaWiki), but Na'vi is not listed.  So I went to add a new language (http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Translating:Process).  However, it requires a ISO-639-3 code for a language to be added.  According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Na%27vi_language) Na'vi has an ISO 639-2 code -- "artificial", but no ISO 639-3.  SIL maintains the authoritative list (http://www.sil.org/ISO639-3/codes.asp) and there is a contact email at the bottom ([email protected]) which I sent an inquiry to.

I wanted to tell the community, since I have no authority and am the least of Na'vi speakers.  Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions?

I was working with Paul to get a change request in last year but I think he got too busy.  I think Taronyu might have sent in a change request, but I never saw it appear on the list of proposed changes, so I'm not sure what happened.  They work on an annual cycle with submissions open until sometime around September or October; so at this point there is not really any huge rush because any submission wouldn't be considered until next year.

I'm not looking for a huge rush.  I just want (someday) for their to be a Na'vi Wikipedia!  8)

Taronyu's change request came in after last year's deadline and is in this year's cycle: http://www.sil.org/ISO639-3/chg_detail.asp?id=2011-035&lang=nvi

We'll get a decision sometime next year.

Looks like ISO 639-3 for Na'vi was rejected.

I changed the User Agent string on my Firefox browser anyway:

Mozilla/7.0 (Windows NT 7.4; WOW128;  pa-Na'vi; rv:24.3.9; XTC-001) Gecko/20140917 Firefox/24.0
