I'm more interested in when this attributive a is needed as well apart from the "the X in/from Y" construct. It takes getting used to but it's logical to see this as "the X that is in/from Y" but it makes me wonder what other instances there are...

I think it's just whenever the phrase is functioning adjectivally.

I am curious if we'll ever see anything like:

 *Ngäzìk lu fìätxäle a san ngeyä kxutut zivong.

In Thai there are two different thats that are commonly used. One is THII for things that involve general attribution and then WAA that is for speech or thought (speech in one's head that is not spoken verbally). That makes me think that something like this with san MIGHT happen.
