Something that Paul didn't touch on...the <er> version of nrr. Is it NRR or NER? I'm for ner, honestly.

If vll was vol, then nrr will be ner.

I suspect nrr, given frrfen +er = frrfen.

  • Translate the meaning, not the words!
I go with Temsko.  Based on vll, monosyllables with pseudo-vowels seem to act like unaccented pseudovowels in multi-syllablic verbs.

Yeah, plltxe, [pll.TXE], is poltxe and mllte, [mll.TE], is molte; this is all due to their unstressed pseudo-vowels. However, frrfen is stressed at the pseudo-vowel, so it sticks. Knowing all of this, I have actually come to like this rule...

So perhaps vol from vll was not an exception as I had previously expected.
