2014 Na'vi Writing Contest
« on: December 02, 2014, 02:53:00 pm »
Ma oeyä Ayfamrelsiyu,

For the 5th anniversary of LearnNa'vi.org, we will celebrate the third

Na’vi Writing Contest

You can choose two categories only: (1) prose and (2) poetry.
No differentiation will be made between beginners vs. advanced authors in the language.

Choose only one category for your submission, either:

  (1) prose
       or
  (2) poetry

The overall theme of this year's contest is:

Mrra zìsìt hu Uniltìrantok sì LearnNa'vi.org teya ta vur lu. Pivlltxe pum ngeyä!
Five years with Avatar and LN which is full of history. Tell yours!

Write about themes from this list:

  • Why do you love the Na'vi language?
  • What do you like about the Na'vi's culture, life and environment?
  • What was/is the best experience you had/have with this community or regarding learning Na'vi?

Judging

Team of judges are: Tìtstewan, Kemaweyan, Prrton and Plumps.
My thanks to Kemaweyan, Prrton and Plumps for helping me to do this. Seiyi irayo pxengar nìtxan!

As for your text, it should have minimum 50 and maximum 200 words.
What we'll be looking for, in order of importance:

   (1) Prose:
        1. Grammatical correctness
        2. Elegant ways of talking around missing vocabulary
        3. Style and panache

   (2) Poetry:
        1. Creative use of native phonology, oral and aural beauty
        2. Emotional pull (the ability to be ‘moving’ to the reader)
        3. Grammatical correctness (in poetry, rules don't have to be followed strictly but shouldn't be broken unintentionally)

If you exceed the established word limit, points may be deducted in the judging process.

Submissions

Submissions are by email.

1.  The subject line should say what category you're entering, so one of "Prose" or "Poetry"

2.  Include your LN.org login ID and name in the email. If you want to collaborate with someone,
please include the ID of everyone who contributes to your group submission.

3.  Email your submission to 2014writingcontest<at>learnnavi<dot>org.

4.  All submissions must be received by the end of the day December 21st GMT (until 23:59:59).

The Prize

As a prize, winning works will be published on Naviteri - blog of our nawma Karyu Pawl.
Your work will be published under name you specify in point 2 of submission.

There will be a first and second place winner (and maybe also a third winner, but it depends how many writers will participate).
If we do not receive enough submissions,
it is possible that on only a first place winner will be announced.

Additional Information

There is a little difference regarding the current contest and the lastest two ones: Maybe you have noticed that there is a new forum board;
It's 2014 Na'vi Writing Contest that you can find inside the Na'vi Writing Contests board.

That board is supposed to be filled by your poetry or prose you have written for the 2014's contest.
So, feel free to post your text there but after the winners have been announced / after the contest event.

Irayo! :)

So finally it started :) Time duration is a little short, as I was told I must work over next weekend, so it will be difficult for me to take part in. Ok, I'll try to deal with that...

You and I both. Besides my day job, I have a bunch of outside work that has all come up, all at once. I can't justify turning it down, as it pays quite well. I should still have the time to do a submission though, if I stay on top of it.

Hmm, the first contest event started on 4th dec. and ended on 17th dec. = 13 days
The second contest started on 5th dec and ended on 23rd dec (after the deadline has been extended) = 18 days
And the current one started on 2nd dec and its deadlline is on 18th dec = 16 days
You should have two weekends. ;) :) :D

We could extend the deadline if necessary, but I wasn't happy to let the jury work over christmas, as reading and judging needs time and the jury is also busy with work.

I have a question: What if ONE of all the verses in the whole poem doesn't rhyme with anything?

Then one verse stands alone in the rhyme scheme.  It's not the end of the world. :)  Poetry doesn't even have to rhyme at all. ;)

So - lu hasey. Nothing special, but true. It could be possible to write much more than 200 words, but I don't want to write book  :)
