Tse, one year more to study Na'vi. :) ;)
As Cameron is a perfectionist, he is trying to make the sequells as perfect as possible, and this is also a way to keep the sequel's quality on a high level. I'm positive. :)

That's sad, but the movies are not made quickly and the delay will allow Cameron to make a better movie.

Wiya  :(

I just read about this in yahoo news. Very sad only....
A whole year just tacked on. 365 more days... of waiting. Yes we all know it will be great, and well made.
But 8 years later after the original movie? 2920 days we will have to wait for the sequel.

I was excited when we hit 2015, I thought about how we are getting so close. But another year thrown on... Dangit.
The hype from the first movie has gone from a giant bonfire to a mere candle as the time has passed.

James... you had better not forget the Game world too. We could use a new Avatar game, but don't release it before the new movie. That was awful.

It could be expected and I'm not surprised to much (um, I am). Good job takes time and effort - and Avatar is not simple project! {whatever movie} part 2,3 .... is often not so good as first in the serie, but we want to be even better, isn't it? So, let's give some more time to James Cameron to surprise us in pleasant way and let him to extend that wonderful world we've seen. I think we survive without impact :)

It is sad but also good because he doesn't want to make just sequels, he wants to make sequels at least as good as the first movie and possibly better.. I also can't wait till sequels finally come but it is better this way than that the movies aren't perfect :)

We all know that James Cameron is a bit of a perfectionist; personally, I support his judgment.  I'm not a film producer, and I can't even begin to imagine what's involved in bringing a film of this scale to the big screen.  Speaking strictly for myself, I can only ask: let Lightstorm work its magic.  It profits no one to expect unrealistic deadlines; after all, I can hardly expect my management to barrage me with unrealistic deadlines on the software I write.  We waited nearly fifteen years for the first movie, and I believe we have the patience to wait again.

(edit: I didn't mean to imply that Lightstorm was pressuring me on the software I write!)

^This.
My sentiments exactly.  :)

In the long run it is a good thing, the sequels will be amazing and when that day finally gets here, it will be that much sweeter :) :) :) :)
But in the short term it still is a little disappointing :p

I remember when they had talks of a 2014 release, but that was soon replaced with a solid 2015 release....
But then, it was changed to 2016 for the longest time. Ok, I can deal with that. What a couple more years, right?

Time passes, 2015 arrives. "Ok not long now, just under 2 years to go!"
Then BAM!  Release extended again to 2017!?!??!  >:(

Don't get me wrong, I will wait 20 years if I have to.
But ultimately waiting a total of 8 years, is a long time! Holy cow, Eight Years!
And then we will have another release in 2018, then 2019 and 2020.
So by the time we see the very last movie it will be another 5 years from now.  ???

It's all very much worth the wait. But I am worried! Because James Cameron is the only one who can do these movies.
The part that worries me is time. Just like Paul Walker... So much can happen in that time of movie making.
Which big credit to James C. that hes shooting all 3 other movies together which closes the gap for possibly losing actors.

I can't wait to see the next movie. That thing will be sold out for weeks.
Im gonna spend a few bucks to get the best seats in the house for this movie. Stoked....

And this old thread becomes relevant again. *sigh*

I'm sure you've all heard by now that JC has announced another delay of Avatar 2 due to COVID delays. Just when we thought we were finally getting close.  But on the bright side, maybe that's a smart move (and a big sigh of relief for all of the digital artists) since 2021 is going to be jam packed with the backlog of films that were supposed to be released in 2020.I don't know how Disney is going to rearrange the alternating Avatar/Star Wars schedule, but the delay gives theatres 2021 to catch up on their revenue stream, just in case they have to make some technical upgrades in order to properly project Avatar 2. ;)

Interesting idea.
I also still wish that Avatar 1 would be again in cinemas in that time before Avatar 2 will be released.

After The Farce Awakens, Last Jedi, Rise of Skywalker and Solo, is there any life left in that smoldering train wreck?

The fans are still there, and still dedicated, but I suspect they will need time before they are ready for another movie.

Wait, so how many times has this happened to us in total again? Is this really like the 4th or 5th (or more?) time? o.o

EDIT: At least this time it is entirely understandable and expected, that the schedule could not be met. It is a global pandemic, after all. I'm sure the sequels are all going to be perfected MASTERPIECES after all this time. :)

I am not sure how many times it was delayed exactly but I think that there was at least 4 delays.
