*sigh* If only I lived near Boise. Well....I kinda do actually, Idaho is the next state over from me, but it would be an incredibly long drive from my location that I can't afford the gas for :( He needs to come to Portland! we have PLENTY of venues for him to come to! I would know, my company works at most of them!

Hmmm.... that is dangerously close, about a 7 hour drive from Reno. I wonder if he will ever be closer to Reno, perhaps the Bay area, or even the University of Nevada-Reno? (And I work on the campus.)

I would much rather drive 7 hours to Boise than 4.5 hours to the Bay area. Much less traffic, no tolls, cheaper food, etc.

Wow, both Frommer and Marc Okrand? Really wish I could live near places where these things actually happen.

I am now definitely planning to attend this event, weather for travel permitting.

A brief radio story Artificial Language, on Boise State Public Radio.  Phone interviews with Frommer and Okrand.

The event was Tewti nìwotx nang

Did anyone else from the list make it? I did not see anyone else there with a Learnnavi shirt, or with any kind of Avatar shirt. (Lots of people brought Avatar DVDs to autograph.)

Paul Frommer and Marc Okrand sat in chairs on either side of a moderator. Before the presentation began, cards were distributed to the audience to fill out with questions. Paul and Marc both took turns answering questions and telling stories. There was no presentation done concerning learning the basics of either Na`vi or Klingon.

I didn't see any Na`vi or avatars there, but there was one Klingon there in full uniform. He was a very interesting gentleman, and apparently older than I am! He was also local to the Boise area. He is working on an avatar costume as well, but it is not ready.

After the presentation, there was ample time to have a nice discussion on various topics nìna`vi with K. Pawl, as well as Klingon questions with Marc Okrand (I found out Marc works with closed captioning systems, so were were also able to 'talk shop' about the many shortcomings of the current digital TV closed captioning system).

In any case, I walked away with a lot of questions answered, and with a strong sense that what I am doing nìna`vi is the right thing. There is no question in my mind that all the work to attend this event was worth the considerable effort.

So after a visit to the Boise Zoo or the Peregrine Raptor Center tomorrow, it is a long 7+ hour drive home. Once home, I will post pictures I took of the event!

Thanks for the update!
Sounds really amazing.
Do you know whether there will be a recording of the event online?

Fì'u! :)

Sounds like it's been truly interesting and nice. :D I'm so never going to be able to attend any event like this, since I don't even live in the US.. :(

`Eylan Ayfalulukanä

No guarantee of that. K.Pawl has been all over the world talking about lì`fya leNa`vi. Is there a major university close by where you are?

Oh really? I didn't know that. :) Well, I'm close to McGill: don't know if that university is major enough! :D

I believe they have one indeed! ;D I will certainly do that. (:

Oh, that is good to know! Crazy drivers can be very annoying sometimes. ::)

I was hoping to have that info up this weekend. But other folks found something for me to do just about every minute I was awake. Now, we are into a more challenging-than-it-has-to-be week. During the day, I will be working on writing a Federal grant application (in English :-(  ). And at night, I will be fighting City Hall over a proposed new law that hurts animal owners. Still, I am hoping (maybe Wednesday or Thursday night) to get the pictures and a longer version of the story posted.
