Well, JC is a bigger geek than most of us could ever hope to be so I never doubted that we would be getting just such a thing. I'm only worried I expect too much.

I think JC gave figures at around $1M to complete each of the nearly-complete 9 minutes in the SE. If that's the case, and the rest of the footage is much rougher, I don't really blame him; they must have been left mostly unfinished for a reason.

You underestimate the army of visual effects artists that you hire to process digitally rendered 3d effects, frame by frame.

Anyway, 45 minutes extra is making me less sad with not having seen the extended version yet.

Really, when is it coming out in 3D. I will buy this extended edition just because I am that die-hard of a fan, but I want it in 3D.

Whats the point in owning a 3DTV if all the movies that are in 3D in theater are not in 3D on Blu-Ray?

The word is that since the 3D home cinema boom went pretty much down the drain, the studios are re-evaluating the reasons and importance for 3D home movies. There's not much reason after all to publish movies in a format that no one can watch. Still avatar is said to be available in 3D in sometime 2011 according to latest info.

Still, having only 16 minutes of additional material in the movie is a bit of a disappointment, was expecting something along the LotR lines(30-60min). Hopefully there's at least few hours worth of making-of material, in addition to those 45 minutes of unfinished footage.

Well, there's so much money and data that goes into finishing scenes, and it costs a lot of money, since after all, it is new tech and all.

I will be honest, I'll be somewhat disappointed in the fact that some scenes will remain "unfinished," but I also am glad that it's going to be there in the first place! And in the end, as long as the audio doesn't suffer, I'll be okay (My eyes are good, but my ears are excellent).

And as far as the 3D goes, I won't doubt that it will be available to the general audience someday. It just won't be anytime soon, IMO.
