If you are in Canada, the Globe and Mail also has an article today (2nd page). The on-line version isn't up yet, but I can post it when it is.

The Na'vi typo

"learnavi.org", "kalxi" :P

That's 2 Na'vi related typos.

Not the first person to make the Learnavi.org typo. Good thing I bought that domain a while ago as well. :)

learnavi is correct - two same letters elides into one ;D Or is it valid for vowels only?
Anyway good article. First one where someone mentions me :)

Hello again,

Here is the article from the Globe and Mail (Canada's National Newspaper). You'll have to let me know if they got THEIR Na'vi right!   ;)

http://aol.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/aolstory/TGAM/20110808/NWAVATAR0808ATL

A friend of mine in Hong Kong has also seen a version of the story written in Chinese!  Also, yesterday Dr. Frommer and I were both on a radio program in Manitoba, on CJOB 68, and that was a very good interview as well. I'm still surprised by all the media attention!

Last, I agree what a great idea buying the learnavi.org domain as well.  Foolproof is right!

Irayo!

Yup, no mistakes, tho I don't know why they didn't just use yemstokx and say "fori mawkrra rentenit yolemstokx holum" instead of 'after they had adorned themselves with goggles...' Lol. I suppose it sounds nicer that way. And also, the second <ol> infix isn't necessary because it's already been established in "yolemstokx" (or in their example, "säpoli") that the actions are completed and Na'vi doesn't usually "repeat itself" like this. It's not an error, just wanted to point that out :)

Hmm. Well I don't see anything in the blog that specifically mentions that 'goggles' is to be used with "ioi si" tho it is definitely implied as goggles are listed as an 'ioi' and it says

Perhaps you're right. *looks over the blog again* Yeah...yeah you are. It mentions the differences in putting on ioi and putting on pxen. I had apparently forgotten that. I wonder why Frommer used the <ol> infix twice in the sentence...

*grin* see!  I thought I remembered right!  You'd have to ask him that yourself, though, I certainly don't have any insights into his head  ;)

Still, it's great to see so much renewed interest in this subject (even if the articles are clearly borrowed almost in their entirety one from the other)

Ekirä

Yeah, they just took one of Frommer's examples that he put on the blog. ;)

I wonder why Frommer used the <ol> infix twice in the sentence...

It's the conjunction.  In many languages with the perfective, a secondary meaning it develops is the idea of "before something else in time," especially in subordinate clauses.  So, you need one perfective for the main clause, and one for the temporal subordinate clause (mawkrra ...).  If it were just two statements connected by "and" or not even connected at all, just one after the other, I wouldn't expect the perfective to be used twice.

I would think the 'binding' between a main and subordinate clause to be stronger than that between two clauses joined with 'and'. So, what you say about the use of double perfectives kind of surprises me.
